Great Swamp Battle Monument

Very interesting history from King Philip’s war. The monument is interesting too. The exact site of the battle is lost to history, but this monument is in the general area. The “road” back to the monument is ok, but if there has been a lot of rain it would be easy for a car to get stuck, so be careful. There is a house very close to the entrance, so drive slowly. It's nice short hike to The Monument. Pay respect for those people who through this battle.

Hidden in the middle of the swamp, this weathered monument takes a bit of a walk to visit, but it's worth it. Many insects during the walk. I didn't hear or see any birds or animals. One way in and out, no work around the walk, all flat, watch out for burrs, pokeweed and poison ivy. The entrance is right next to private property.

Neat and majestic place. We need more monuments like this to bring to light the true American history.

Well kept. Tragic history of course,but it was a different time. How did the quartz rocks get on top?

This is a little visited place. The "battle" was more like a massacre of the Narragansett people. It's a short walk from the parking area, maybe a third of a mile. Keep to the Left. Bring some bug spray, biting flies are a problem.

It's nearly a one mile hike from the parking spots to the monument.
