Our captain and crew mate were awesome! We were first timers and had a party of 10 they even let the kids on board drive the boat. If in the area again we will definitely come back and use this service again. Very knowledgeable and very friendly! Highly suggest for anyone. Only downfall is the store was closed when we made it back to shore so we were not able to purchase any souvenirs.

Harker's Island visitor center makes for a nice stop as you wait for the ferry over to the Cape Lookout Light Station. They have good restroom facilities, a small gift shop, some nice exhibits and their staff are very knowledgeable. Buy your Ferry tickets here at this building

I love coming down to the visitor center, even if I'm not taking the ferry. There is a museum, walking trail, picnic tables and a fabulous Food truck! We have seen folks fish from the grassy area as well. They have nice clean bathrooms and plenty of parking. We will always continue to come back and I'll always recommend for folks to check out all the amenities of the area.

Ferry has many times available, but their last ride back is at 545pm! We didn't have much time to enjoy the lighthouse but the kids were grateful for it! Lol captains were friendly, helpful and informative

The visitor center sits across from Cape Lookout Lighthouse. It offers a museum with information about the lighthouse and its history. Located beside the center is a ticket area to purchase tickets for a ferry to the lighthouse, one of the only ways to see it up close, (ferry or personal boat).
The area is kept very well and inviting, the staff we spoke with,(Rangers and store personnel), were very friendly and helpful.

Don't miss this!!

I was really impressed by every aspect of my family's recent visit to the Harker's Island Visitors Center. It was a very well maintained area with stunning views.

While I'm not certain of which tours they specifically offer, they do run boat tours; however, we arrived too late in the day to take one.

Also of note were the excellent staff who went above and beyond in making sure visitors enjoyed themselves, especially the kids. The one staff person provided work books to our kids and talked to them about other places they may have seen in the state of NC.

Lastly, if you have a passport to our National Parks, there are several stamps you can collect at this facility.

We can't wait to visit again!

The ferry ride to see the wild horses and lighthouse was amazing!! Don't stay too long though it can get very hot. Shackleford Island is beautiful, but only the lighthouse has shade and a gift shop, place to get drinks etc

Didn’t spend too much time here, but staff was helpful in purchasing tickets for the ferry. When we got back to the visitor’s center they also had a food truck, Shark Island Eats, stationed in the parking lot where we had some excellent fish tacos and fried oreos!

This is a beautiful place to visit and take the ferry over to the beach and lighthouse at Cape Lookout. You're very likely to see plenty of wild horses and dolphins on the boat ride over.

This is a beautiful modern facility with friendly workers and a nice gift shop. There is a movie that tells about Cape Lookout. You can buy tickets for the ferry to take you to see the lighthouse and the wild horses on Shackleford Island.

Really nice people working there. Clean restrooms. Recommend going to Schackelford Island from the ferry here. The captain was nice enough to let me get a great picture of the lighthouse.
