Appalachian Trail Piazza Rock Trail Head

A great hike if you continue to the top of Saddleback Mountain. Great views from the summit after an interesting hike by three ponds. The trail has many flat areas mixed into to the uphill and downhill so it isn't as hard as you might be thinking. Coming this trail in inclement weather is not advised as the summit is totally exposed and will freeze your ears off or worse.

So pretty right now as the leaves turn. Beware though as those falling leaves are making the trail slippery. SW someone slip as they were walking up.

Do not underestimate the difficulty of this hike! I did Saddleback and Saddleback Horn starting from here (15 miles round trip) in a day and it's up there with some of the 5kers in the Whites. I definitely wasn't expecting it. Just doing Saddleback would've been about 6.5 hours, but throwing in the Horn I had about 9 of just hiking in total.

A brillant little hike up to a rock that looks like one of my favorite foods.

Good short hike, 4 mile round trip from parking lot. Was busy but was a Sunday and its just outside of Rangeley. Went with 2 dogs and they were able to handle the terrain.

Big trailhead parking lot, trail is nice and scenic goes by some nice ponds and Piazza Rock before the ascent up Saddleback.

Fun trail! Great spot to meet thru-hikers.

Piazza rock is so cool! Climb on top if you're brave.
