Mississippi Burning (MIBURN), which later became the title of a 1988 film loosely based on the events. In 1967, after the state government refused to prosecute, the United States federal government charged 18 individuals with civil rights violations. Seven were convicted and another pleaded guilty, and received relatively minor sentences for their actions. Outrage over the activists' disappearances helped gain passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Unfortunately, I've Never Been Here Before, Hell, I've Never Been To Mississippi Before . I'm Rating This Church Five Stars Because Of It's Significant Civil Rights History . I'm So Amazed And Proud Of How This Church, After Being Burned Completely To The Ground, Arose From The Ashes, And Continues To Stand Strong, As A Symbol Of The Fact That Good Shale Always Triumph Over Evil .

Was there about 10 years ago with my son.
Stopped to pay respects and this old black preacher drove by and he was smiling and waving at us two white boys with mn plates on our rv. I thought his arm was going to fly off.
Strange experience but one I'll never forget, like it was yesterday.
