Conanicut Battery offers easy walking and a beautiful view of the water, along with well-written signage with photographs, maps, and diagrams. The Friends of Conanicut Battery have preserved the site since 1997, with rehabilitation efforts completed in 2002. Events are held throughout the year, including the next Battery Day historical reenactment coming in Spring 2024. The park is open from dawn to dusk. Ample parking is available. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear while walking the sometimes hilly trails.

Beautiful historic location tucked away from the main road and main tourist attractions. A quiet reflective place with easy trails around the main battery area. Dog friendly as well.

This place is a hidden gem. Lots of history with informative plaques throughout the small park. A good place to go in the winter when the leaves are off the trees; beautiful views of the water.

Such scenic beauty on such a small island...my wife and go here when we want to share quiet conversation and the cool on shore breezes... we'll sometimes bring a breakfast or lunch picnic and some collapsible chairs and just sit and relax taking in the smells and stillness...once in-a-while a cottontail will run by...the area is always clean and kept by the RI parks and recreation...take your trash with you !

Terrific place for a short hike, with terrific views, stone benches for resting, meditating, eating a picnic, etc. Dog and kid friendly. Very interesting history.

This is the remnants of a Patriot fortification that stood guard of the west passage of Jamestown Island. The British at the time held Newport, and when they learned Patriot rebels were on Jamestown, they raided the fort, and forced them to flee. After this, the British used the fort, dug it deeper, built it taller, until the French Navy came to bail us out in 1778. The French fired cannon on Jamestown, which forced the British to flee this time! Jamestown has also been one home to the Narragansett's, and Indian Burial grounds and artifacts have been found on the island.
