Great campsite close to Redstone and Carbondale. Little access points to Avalanche creek but was running very fast right now so unable to fish. Good access points about a mile into Avalanche lake hike. Be mindful that road in is slightly rough and we were stuck for 24 hrs due to heavy rainfall washing out the road, so if rain in forecast just be prepared. Plenty to do in area if stuck but make sure you have enough food and water. Local told us some times it takes 1 to 3 days to be fixed depending on who is available to fix. We had a great time.

We had the campground to ourselves when we came, so it was very quiet and relaxing here. The only wildlife we saw were a couple birds, some squirrels and a chipmunk. A few of the camp areas were unlevel but most can accommodate a big tent. There are fire rings and tables at each site and the restrooms aren't too far from any of the sites. A warning though-the road in is very Rocky, not recommend for cars or fancy vehicles, the road is only wide enough for 1 car at a time in most places, great care should be used!

Awesome place to camp and hike. Pretty popular as people come through to hike the nearby trails, but the camping is perfect and right next to the river. Facilities are well kept and the host was very nice. I will definitely come back again!

Beautiful location right by the creek. Newly rebuild campsites with good picnic tables, bear boxes, and tent pads. Great for tent camping!

We have lived in the Roaring Fork Valley for 5 years and this is our very favorite spot within 40 miles at least. Good for long or short hikes along the creek or up the hills, great camping, trails, beautiful setting, and the dogs love it, during the seasonal opening. This is one of the places I bring out of state visitors to enjoy the CO Outdoors, doesn't get much better than this!!♡♡

Do not let dogs off leash here and keep your food/trash in the big steel bear boxes. Mountain Lions are rare but present and bears are everywhere!

Small campground nestled deep inside a valley. The road is rough, long, narrow, and slow and you have to drive through a shallow stream. Medium sized campsites with bear-proof storage, but little privacy. No running water. Pit toilets, but they felt clean. Camp host was very friendly. Scenery was gorgeous and there is a good sized river about 50 feet from the campsites. Summer days were hot and nights were in the 50's. Redstone and Carbondale are nearby if you need supplies. There is also a beautiful trailhead that heads into the mountains just down the road. Non-biting flies were annoying so definitely bring bug spray. Camping is free? It said something about donations are appreciated, but nothing about price. You can also park and hike into the mountains to camp as well. Overall a great place to camp and I would definitely go back again.

Great USFS campground for tents and small campers that can handle the rough road to get here. First come first served.
