A very beautiful hike through the forest, over rivers and ponds colored in bright orange because of the iron ore. The iron fence is a very interesting formation with small waterfalls, springs, and a great view. Lot's of fun moss, flower and blueberry plants growing agound.

An absolutely gorgeous area! Very worth the hike in, which is just over a mile with one creek crossing. I hope everyone continues to be respectful of this place. So pleased I saw no trash and no destruction!

Very remote area, with a definite four wheel long road up to trail! You must have a high clearance vehicle like a pickup or jeep. Once you get to the trail is not too difficult of a trail and the fens are unbelievable! The colors are beautiful and definitely unique. The iron fens are very unique and beautiful!

This place is great! I didn't even realize the fens were hear until making a trip up for some Jeeping. Took these photos from my drone.

Strenuous 2.5 mile round trip hike, for this old guy anyway. Tons of small to medium sized rocks and a stream to cross. Take your sticks if you have them.
Reminded me of some formations in Yellowstone, but somewhat different. Cold water and only slightly acidic for starters.
Strange and Fascinating place.

A very rare geological oddity, and an easy hike from the road. Worth checking out if in the area for sure, gas an alien world vibe to it.

Truly a unique feature in the area. Worth the hike. Reminds me of a feature that might be in Yellowstone National Park. Iron and sulfur deposits coming from natural springs in the ground create a series of Giant Steps. Pictures don't really do it justice. The feature is not roped off or protected so you can explore the whole thing, but please be careful as could be damaged with too much traffic or carelessness.

The Iron Fens are a unique and relatively easy hike. Several terraces and rivulets make for an interesting mountain stream. The entire area is reminiscent of the geothermal areas near Yellowstone but the Fens are a naturally occurring cold water phenomenon that produces some similar terrain (although not neary as colorful) - lots of brown's and rust colors. Park along the Geneva Creek Road where there is an old and now closed road proceeding down the hill. Follow this to the fens. There isn't a really a "trail", you just hike around the whole area.

Colorado outdoors is better than anywhere else indoors.
