I visited this museum mainly to purchase a book, but I took some time to look around a little while I was there. I found the exhibits to be interesting and the staff are very friendly. I highly recommend anyone interested in local history to visit this museum.

Fun demos of colonial skills. The docent were .ost anxious to explain their craft and related it to both past and present. Each one had some hands on for the visitors; children and adults.

Excellent local house museum, county historical society, and library with permanent and changing exhibits relevant to the history of Amherst County, including the Monacan First Nations peoples through to the 21st century. Appointments are currently needed (as of 8-23-2022) to visit inside or study in the library, unless there is a public event such as their annual Colonial Day. The Tyler Log School can also be seen and studied on the property; a 19th century log-built schoolhouse moved from Madison Heights.

The presentation on hurricane Camille today was great fun and very informative. There was a nice spread of refreshments and some homemade sponge cake. Everone pitched in and put away chairs afterwards.

I donated my father's US Army uniform and other materials due to the fact he was a native of Amherst.
