Roadmasters Lodge

We originally had reservations for the
caboose, which we've stayed previously in 2022 and enjoyed. While en route to Folkston, James called, offering to upgrade our stay to the Roadmasters Lodge due to a clogging incident from the previous guests of the caboose. Of course we accepted!

The Lodge is cozy yet spacious, very clean
yet rustic, with all the necessary amenities.
The back patio is covered with a ceiling fan
that helped keep us cool in the afternoon
sun. The view of the tracks is wonderful with
plentiful train movements. We counted 20+ trains daily during our waking hours. My kids loved the large open yard to play around.

We'll be back!

Whether man or woman who loves train watching the Caboose is the place to stay. As a woman, alone, and enjoys trains I called to reserve the Caboose for a couple of days and asked if it was safe for a single woman, alone, to stay in the Caboose and I was assured it was. I found this to be true. The Caboose was very clean and perfectly located in taking pictures of the many trains that went by. Only a few minutes away was the Folkston Funnel. Another great and "Safe" environment to watch and take photos. While my visit was short, I had an opportunity to visit the local clientele...very friendly and I dropped a little bit of 💵 into the local economy. A must visit is the Museum and while there had to pick up tee shirts, collared shirts and pins to help support the local venue. The Mexican Restaurant was buzzing for a Wednesday night. Although mostly locals. I felt very welcomed and comfortable. Wanted to try their Thai Restaurant, but ran out of time. The owners were very accommodating and I will definitely return again and again....I just found a "safe" place to escape! I highly recommend the Caboose. A great experience and one I won't forget! My family and I had an AWESOME time at the Roadmasters Lodge! The lodge is cozy and clean, with all the necessities. The location was perfect for training watching, whether it be right by the track or off the back deck of the lodge. I think we saw 20-30 trains over two days, and it's also very close to the main Folkston junction. We will definitely stay here again.

Cozy, clean, and comfortable with warm water, a nice porch, a surprisingly large kitchen, and reliable WiFi. Owners were friendly and responsive to questions. I didn't snap a photo until we were leaving (so our bed isn't made), but you can see there's plenty of space for the whole family. A perfect place for train watching, right next to the tracks. Great little spot to spend the night!

We absolutely 💯 love the Roadmaster lodge. The owner is amazing. The property is clean and well maintained. We have lots of family get togethers here. And we love train watching. We visit very often. It just gets better every time. We are so thankful for this amazing place for our family to enjoy!!!

Great place to stay. Convenient and clean with a great back porch for watching the trains go by. If, however, trains bother you when you sleep, you may want to look for another spot as they go by quite often throughout the day and night. They don't bother me, so I slept great. Memory foam mattresses were very comfortable. The only slight inconvenience was the water pressure in the shower. If it had been a little stronger I wouldn't have anything negative to say. Great experience and the property manager was very responsive.

I have stayed here twice (in caboose) and it is always awesome. this is great if you like trains. freight trains go past at random times right outside. they have a grill and a micro fridge so you can go out and cook up food enjoy your beverages and eat. there is also a small fire pit near the tracks.
across the street is The Brickhouse dinner. They have the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had.

My boys loved the caboose! Perfect place for rail fans...sometimes you wake up thinking you're actually ON a train with the way it rumbles at night. An adventure for sure and much more fun than staying in a hotel. Caboose was very clean when we arrived and the locals were polite. We didn't come to Folkston for the trains, we came for Okefenokee, and the convenience of the this location made it an ideal stay...it is a tight space, keep that in mind when booking length of stay. It is what it is, a caboose, don't expect a lot of room to hold luggage or sit back and kick your feet up easily. The back deck makes up for that though and is a good place to chill out and watch the rails.

Slept in the FLS caboose during the 2019 Folkston Railwatch. The stay was nothing but excellent! The inside is small but that is what to be expected for a caboose. I was of course there for the trains, the caboose gave me such an excellent view of the passing trains. Note, you will get waken up by the passing trains if you are a light sleeper, so have earplugs with you. I had earplugs, so I was able to get plenty of sleep. The caboose is close to all sorts of food chains, including Dairy Queen, and McDonalds. You are also close to the Folkston Funnel. Even the service is excellent! The owners are super sweet and made us feel super welcome! This stay was excellent and I will be back some point in the future!

I have stayed in both the Caboose and Lodge several times over the last few years and have never been disappointed with Sarah. Check in and out is always a breeze. Cleanliness and comfort never a problem. If you like a lot of trains and southern food this is your destination.

Train enthusiasts... There is no place better than Folkston, GA to watch trains and no better place to stay than the Roadmasters Lodge! The location is perfect! It’s right beside the tracks, yet away from the crowd. There is plenty of space for children to safely run around, to build a fire, swing as you watch the trains, and just relax. Both the lodge and caboose are very clean, and the customer service is excellent! If you are looking for a getaway to watch trains, I highly recommend checking for availability at the Roadmasters Lodge or Caboose. 🚂

Every stay has always been a delight. Easy booking, reasonably priced, and very responsive Management. Always a great get-a-way for the kids whether in the lodge or the caboose. Perfect location for a train watching family. We plan to have many more trips here in the future to come.

We recently attended an event at the Roadmasters Lodge for the second time. This time we stayed overnight at the lodge. We absolutely loved it! It's such a cozy little place! Everything you need is conveniently there, it's clean, & just a neat place to stay. Our 9 year old son thought it was pretty cool to listen for the train horns & then just open the back door to see them go by. His favorite place at the lodge is the swing out by the tracks.
Both times we have been were for a Williams Syndrome Christmas party, it is a perfect location for outdoor events. Plenty of room for the kids to run around & play & watch the trains go by.
Thank you sooo much to the owners for sharing their little cozy cabin & helping out the WS families with having a fun place to get together & socialize. We definitely enjoyed our stay at the Roadmasters Lodge.

We love staying in the cabin, our grandson can watch trains all day and night. My wife fell in love with the porch that we can keep an eye on our grandson as he watches the trains go by. The kitchen had everything we needed to fix dinner, the grocery store is 1 block away as is the middle of town.We will definitely try to stay here again!!!!!!

The Roadmasters Lodge is a very nice place to stay. Right on the tracks, so plenty of train watching. Sarah is great to work with, always friendly, she even checks with you during the stay to make sure everything is what you expected!

Roadmasters is great for railfans and their families. It's close enough to the tracks to see all the trains passing, but far enough back so sleeping non-railfans won't be disturbing by the trains. Clean, well maintained and convenient to everything.

My husband and I have stayed at the Lodge several times. It is very cozy and has all the amenities and more. Full kitchen and bath plus bedroom and living room combo. The lodge sleeps 6 comfortably and poss 7 on the very comfortable couch. The back of the lodge has a nice covered porch that faces the train tracks. This is the perfect place for the avid railfan. Even though there's a rail platform down the street for the railfans to watch trains, if you stay at this lodge you really never have to leave. We sit on the porch enjoying the cool breeze of the ceiling fan and comfy chairs. We don't have to go far for the bathroom or a nap if the need should arise. We go to the local Harvey's groceries and stock up to cook in the cute little kitchen that's equipped with a fridge, oven and lots of utensils. Saves us money on eating out and we wont miss any trains. I highly recommend any railfan coming to Folkston to stay at the lodge. It adds so much to your train viewing pleasure. Thank you Sarah

If you are a railfan, or just interested, you need to visit this place. The railroad built the lodge as housing for its Roadmaster (the person in charge of maintaining the track, plus family) more than a century ago. The owners have done a nice job updating it as a cabin, complete with full bath and kitchen and ample sleeping in comfortable bunk beds (doubles on the bottom bunks), climate control, satellite TV, and a delightful back porch that faces the tracks. The railroad is CSX's primary route to & from Florida, busy with freight trains and Amtrak's passenger trains between Florida and the northeast. The town of Folkston has embraced railfans and built a great viewing platform just a couple of blocks to the north. There's a grocery store nearby along with ample fast food and some restaurant choices. It's a relaxing place to spend a couple of days (or more), enjoying the railroad and a quaint town in the deep South. The Okefenokee Swamp is also nearby. Check out the museum in the old depot. I've visited several times with family and friends, and we have always enjoyed it. I highly recommend the Roadmaster's Lodge!

The lodge is so cosy and comfortable, and is like stepping back in time, but with all mod cons, which was much appreciated. After being on the road, having a kitchen was great. We both had a lazy few days train watching and were'nt disappointed. The Okefenokee restaurant in town serves a great buffet and the steaks a to die for! Absolutely brilliant!
