Louis Bennett Public Library

I have never had a bad experience at the Louis Bennett Public Library! I always find a good book to read, and the staff are always so friendly! I am always sad to leave, and I look forward to my next visit! I definitely recommend this library to all my book lovers!

If you love old mansions, this is one you may enjoy. Three flights of beautiful wooden staircases to climb. A small collection of books and Internet to pass a few quiet hours. Many photo opportunities, inside and out. So bring your camera! Friendly and Informative staff. Thank you for a lovely visit.

The library is clean and the staff is nice BUT your hours of operation needs to be updated or something... I've been there several times and you have been closed... Like today you suppose to close at 6 and its 5:30 and your closed... ITS ANNOYING!...

I have never in my life been treated so poorly by a public library. Having raved about this library and been so excited to visit and make it a regular activity for me and my almost 3 year old, today will be a day I never forget. We arrived for story time only to be told they were having a “regulars only” halloween event that was not advertised and had no sign up but it took the place of story time and so we needed to come back next week. So instead of “welcome let’s get you set up and show you around so you can participate next week” or “hey we can do a story time for you all and anyone else that’s new and shows up over here” it was “we don’t allow kids that have never been here to participate in our special activities like Halloween”. So instead of having an incredible first library visit with my book obsessed kid he left crying hysterically because he wanted to get books and see the other kids that were walking in with him. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a public institution dedicated to literacy and emboldening the next generation to be inclusive, accepting of others and accommodating of differences, would be so exclusive, unwelcoming and honestly just incredibly unkind. I’m heartbroken and upset all at once. As an almost 30 year old adult I never thought that the place I’d have to worry about being exclusionary would be the public library. I’m extraordinarily sad and disappointed. Would 10/10 not recommend this institution and will actively be doing the opposite from now on because NO ONE deserves to ever feel the way we did today.
