El Restaurante Azteca

I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty my food was! We are traveling thru the area and decided to eat here. I got a new dish called Acapulco Chicken which comes with a mango-avocado salsa, lime flavored rice and a small salad. Oh it was so good! And not heavy like so much Mexican food is. The salsa worth the chips was also very good. Hubby got 3 beef tacos with Spanish rice and beans and he liked that too. Definitely a great place to eat!

Friendly faces and nice atmosphere. The food was made fresh and served hot and tasted delicious. We also bought some salsa to go!

First of all, the food: HOLY FREAKIN' COW, it is good! Cowboy Queso: amazing! Everything we all had was just very tasty!

This is Tex-Mex of the highest order and they sure k is what they're doing.

This is a family restaurant, almost 100 years old and in the 3rd generation. It's obvious why.

It was our server's first day and yet she was on the ball and was super nice.

If I'm ever back in Hondo (can't imagine I would be) I'd absolutely have to stop here!❤

Seriously the best Mexican food in Hondo. Service is great, wait times are short, incredible enchiladas and queso. The only place you can order REAL guacamole.

Very clean restaurant and great food

We unexpected showed up after my mother's funeral with about 25 people and they were more than hospital. The food was delicious I highly recommend the Cowboy Enchiladas

Never had a bad meal here! The chips and salsa they bring to the table is the best I've had. Prices are quite reasonable and their selection of beverages both Alcoholic and Non are fantastic. Would recommend to anyone in the area to check this place out. The parking is a bit small for the number of seats but there is free parking all along the street.

Delicious meal; friendly, efficient service; reasonable price; generous servings. The chili relleno was unique and wonderful. Rice, whole beans, and guacamole were really tasty. So glad we went.

Wow, what a find. We had fantastic service in this small locally owned place. The homemade sauce with the hot chips were great. They are famous for their chili relleno, which my friend loved. I got the shrimp enchiladas and they melted in my mouth. So glad our friends recommended this place!

Wonderful family owned and operated restaurant. Great food and service. This place is practically an Americana Historical Site.

This restaurant was off the main road that most people would pass on by. It was definitely a go to restaurant gor the locals but very welcoming to new faces. If you are nostalgic and looking for that home made authentic dish, this restaurant will not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious from home made tortillas, to delicious "cowboy enchiladas", and a carne guisada that brought back the taste of MILs homemade cooking. This will definitely be on our stop each time we go through Hondo.

I was there w/ my family members for a Memorial after visiting the grave sight we all decided to go to El Azteca. They have great food and they accommodated our big group of 12 or more. I highly recommend this place. Our servers were 👍 excellent.

Great little quiet place. Only a couple people there so it was a nice and relaxing atmosphere. Beautiful little details in the decoration. My husband loved the classic verde enchiladas and I loved the grilled shrimp skewer with a salad. Thanks for a great relaxing meal. 😊

We ordered food for a party of 25 to go and everything was great! Would definitely go back. A little pricey for enchiladas but food was great, so it all evened out.

We were staying in the Castroville area and honestly had been disappointed with the food options there and a couple places we tried in San Antonio...so we ventured to Hondo to find some Mexican food. We were not disappointed! The food was excellent. Chips that came with the salsa were thin and crisp and still warm. House made I would guess. I had the Mexican plate. My guy friend had the chimichangas. They were both delicious. Fresh and well made. Good portion sizes. Restaurant looked exceptionally clean and tidy. Just FYI - soda is served in cans not fountain. Wait staff was good. Would highly recommend this hidden gem! We will definitely be back before we leave the area!

A little steep in price but not enough to knock it from being one of the better Mexican restaurants in town but I wish they would put napkins and salt and pepper on the table instead of request but that's imo

Had the green enchiladas. Good chips and salsa. I cleared my plate with the fresh tortillas they brought with the check. I will be going back.

Food is always fresh and everything (literally) on the menu is delicious!!!! The owner and waitstaff are always present if you need anything! Ask for nichole!! I have never had a bad meal here!!!

Service is quick, friendly, and attentive. Of course, the food is great too. They're accommodating for large groups, and it's a great option for a quick lunch.

The food was excellent, we had the beef fajitas and there were very tender and savory. Service was also awesome, our sever was very attentive and friendly at all times.
