Hermann Sons Steak House

We went in the middle of the week around dinnertime and had a great experience! Our server was very attentive, and the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. I recommend the pepper steak, as it is one of their specialties and was quite good. This is a family friendly restaurant with a great deal of selection for all kinds of eaters.

We came to Hermann Sons Steak House in Hondo, Texas with our friends who highly recommended it. The restaurant is very spacious it has a bar and an outdoor patio area. It was too hot today to be outside but I can see it would be great on a cool fall or winter evening. The bar seems to have everything you could desire. We started of with some great tasting onion rings but we all came with the same thing in mind the Alvin Special. I ordered mine hot and it was perfect. I also had a trip to their great salad bar and had fried mushrooms. Everything was well prepared and tasted great. The salad bar area was maintained by a staff member that kept everything in order and clean, very impresive.

First time here. We're greeted and seated. I ate the chef's special that had a sweet and spicy sauce on top. I wasn't sure about that as a topping but to my surprise it was delicious! Loved the fried mushrooms that were seasoned just right and hubby had that Big Tex burger. All I can say is that I was glad we stopped by after passing it up several times while driving to Uvalde from San Antonio. Will surely stop by again to try other dishes.

First time experience. Celebrated my anniversary. Impeccable fries mushrooms. Beautifully cooked medium rare rib eye with a cheese enchilada covered in chili. The liver and onions were prepared exactly to my liking. You must have the Mac and cheese! Throw in a full salad bar and a very good wine and beer selection and you can't go wrong with this well run restaurant.

Good food. Good service. Nice environment. Ordered enchiladas on a whim and they were pretty good. Beautiful back patio.

Super great service! Hand made foods that taste amazing! Super fun folksy decor. They have a really cute gift shop. Think Cracker Barrel but cuter. Who ever is their buyer is killing it! I had their signature chopped steak. I wish I would have gotten the hot because it was pretty tame at medium. The fire roasted cream corn was a fun twist on a classic. The breading on their chicken fried steak was fresh and unique. I enjoyed it greatly. Will stop again!

Love coming here. Have been coming here for 11 years and the food is better than it's EVER been. (Except the fries, they are soggy I miss the crispy fries please bring them back!!). They have a new cook and this person knows what they are doing!! Saturday night was pretty packed so we try and go earlier in the day otherwise there is a wait. There was live music Sat night in my opinion the speakers were way too loud. But yeah the BEST food in the area!! Great drinks too!!
Note** please stop using Windex to "disenfect" the tables and get a proper disinfectant!! Windex does not do the job!

The food was warm upon arrival. The waitress was very polite and carries a smile on her face every time she approached our table. It was a bit chilly I kept my jacket on the whole time.

I have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. I usually start out with the fried pickles. The breading is yummy with the salty Dill pickle slice inside. They are served with ranch dressing as a dipping sauce. I upgraded a side salad to visit the salad bar. There are so many delicious options at the salad bar. The entree that is my favorite is the salmon. It's cooked well done and still very moist and tender. There is no need to use a knife because the salmon just comes right apart. The sides that I've paired with mine are the rice pilaf and fresh vegetables (broccoli was the veggie). The butter sauce and capers are perfect with the sides. I will be frequenting this restaurant quite a bit in my future. I highly recommend eating here if you like salad bars and delicious American cuisine. The staff is friendly and never made me feel ignored or forgotten. They were attentive and quick to get anything we needed at our table.

There is also an outdoor area that is stunning. The views look out over a farm field and are really lovely!

Food was delicious, steaks 🥩 and 🍤 well cooked..Corona 🍻🍺 and margaritas 🍹outstanding. Waitress was great.

This is an icon of Hondo Texas. Place has been around since before I was born. Always delicious and packed every weekend. Specials every day. Drinks are cheap . The food taste like what you expect from a good steak house. Indoor and outdoor dining. It's country as home is. People are friendly and service is amazing . I wish I lived closer so I could make it a weekend thing.

Fantastic steakhouse. The food was unsurprisingly very very tasty, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I say unsurprisingly because they've been in business since 1948, they must be doing something right to be open that long! Quite an amazing dinner, cozy environment, great service and clean restrooms. I've only been there once but I'm already looking forward to a return visit. If you're in the area, this is the place to eat!

Ordered take-out to enjoy at our nearby motel room. Yummy sirloin, baked potato, and broccoli for dinner plus scrumptious enchiladas with rice and beans for the next day's lunch. Had a delicious mocktail (pineapple juice, jalepenos, and grenadine) while we waited for the to-go food to be prepared. This steakhouse has unique history, character, and excellent service with a homey, friendly attitude. My cousin's from The Dixie Dude Ranch have a delicious, spicy sauce at every table called Texican you'll definitely want to try!

Hermann Sons Steak House was excellent. The streaks were delicious. The wait staff was courteous & efficient. The restaurant was very clean. There is also a great gift shop. I highly recommend Hermann Sons Steak House.

Loved eating at this rustic, family friendly, steakhouse. They even have a nice bar and gift shop. You must try the founder's signature dishes.

We were devastated as we heard of the misfortune that hit Bill of Bill&Rosa's in d'Hanis in the past.
We are just overjoyed as the luck changed for Bill and he is able to cook at Hermann Sons. Just ate there today and loved every single bite and minute of it. Bill deserves a 10 plus and the same goes for our waitress Sarah!!!!!!
We will be back and bring others!!!!!!

Solid steakhouse. The Bar, salad bar, back patio and service are all on point. Come here for happy hour and dinner on the regular. Come on in, take a load off!

Worth the drive from San Antonio!! Delicious, juice steak, creative pecan chicken breast and the best creamed corn. Missed out on the cobbler, but that means we need to come back. We sat outside and our kiddo played and got lots of energy out 😁 Our server was also very sweet, and she made us feel like valuable guests.

We had the sirloin lunch special. It was fantastic! Cooked just right. My wife had the same but cooked differently. We were seated next to another couple. It was tight for me. I'm sure they heard our conversation about how devious the steaks were. I had a baked potato side, and my wife had broccoli. Both were cooked to perfection. I guess a small house salad would have been nice. Maybe they could add it to the meal for the next time we visit Hondo. For two people, $36 includes a 20% for super fine service. Makes it affordable to stop every time while visiting Hondo, Texas
