Hillholm Estate (former Inn on Winter's Hill)

From the unique, prohibition era style cocktails and wine selection, to the smoked olive oil infused whipped cream topping grilled peaches, this place is not to be missed if you want something delicious and different than most options in a rural Maine town. They make you feel like you're in a big city with the flair and flavor profiles, but remind you that you're in small town Maine with their fresh ingredients and spot on customer service. While it may not be standard on busier nights, it's a special experience to have the chef delivering your dinner and describing it to you, if you do get so lucky.

They've sealed their spot as our favorite place in town, for both an evening of Karaoke and a special (and mouthwatering) dinner- and we've been to just about every spot within an hour of Kingfield. No one is serving food like these guys, not even the most popular places near Sugarloaf. So glad we've found this gem.

First rate staff, and the owner John is really genuinely great. Beautiful rooms with these amazing Persian carpets, and the quintessential fireplace winter lounge and bar that looks like it was designed by Ralph Lauren. The main house is absolutely gorgeous. John also makes a mean drink and delicious eggs. My sister had her wedding reception here and it is the only place we will go to the region. Rare to find a place which inspires such loyalty.

We had a wonderful visit. Beautiful inn and location, loved the massage options and outdoor sauna. Dinner was delicious, and all the staff were incredibly friendly.

This was such a wonderful spot. Beautiful historical hotel with great vibes, wonderful breakfast and amenities (public spaces, jacuzzi, sauna, yoga class). We felt very lucky to have found this place.

The Inn is extremely quiant and welcoming! The bar is absolutely fabulous and really transports you back in time (in a good way). The bartender/inn keeper was top notch as well and really made delious drinks. We would love to plan dinner there one night because I bet the food is fantastic as well! It ws our first time there and we will definitely be back!

We loved staying here. The inn is beautiful with lots of character. There is a hot tub and sauna to be enjoyed after a day of skiing or snowboarding. We will stay here again when we return to Sugarloaf.

I understand that the Inn recently changed owners and they are planning on updating the facilities, so I’m more focused on the folks there. They were so so kind. We had a change of plans and needed to leave a day early, they had no problem making that adjustment when they could have certainly charged us for the last day. Other small touches tell me they will do great things with the place too!

This place is excellent! Very cozy and welcoming! The people that work there make you feel at home! We came in at a time we're the kitchen was closed but they still managed to make us food, and the food was excellent! Shout out to Mike and the owner who made our stay awesome!

Amazing place! The house is very charming and cozy, rooms are comfortable and very clean. But the best thing besides the lovely bar (great drinks and wine) are the hosts John and Vivian! And please you have to try their delicious food eat and at their restaurant!!! This place is a gem.

Lovely 2 night stay over President's/Valentine's weekend 2021. The Inn is super stylish, with modern accents in the bar area and historic features in the main house. Top tips:
- Book direct on the hotel website. If you are on a budget, they have 'no frills' rooms at half price online. (No decor, basement rooms with window and private en suite toilet/shower).
- Eat at the hotel. If you are not on a budget, definitely try their 4 course Italian meal ($46pp). Absolutely delicious!
- Enjoy the ski. Short drive to Sugarloaf, and even closer to free XC skiing trails groomed by Maine Huts & trails. We parked at the 'Airport Parking for Maine Huts and Trails' and took the scenic 'narrow gorge pathway' west along the river. (Classic tracks for a beginner and plenty of room for advanced skiers to skate, with no ski-dos on that section).

Service! John made me feel like a member of the family! Everyone around the bar/lounge was so friendly. Great conversation, very affordable drinks, and no driving required until the trip to the Loaf the next morning. If your sling Sugarloaf, definitely check the Inn out.

Just ending a week long stay and although I was here for work, it felt more like a vacation. Kristen was more than accommodating. The house and area are beautiful. Trail access for ATV and Snowmobiles. The river is a very short walk along with a beach area for swimming.
Highly recommend if your in the Kingfield area.

The wife and I spent our 12th anniversary in Kingfield. The foliage was great, the town was quaint and the staff at the Inn were welcoming and friendly. The Inn has a nice mix of old and new. The lounge and bar in the center of the structure is the perfect place to enjoy a drink or a game of chess. It has a modern feel with the lowered bar and chair setup. The fireplace adds ambiance to the room. Although we opted to eat elsewhere, the menu looked scrumptious.

We will be back!! It was a great experience. The Inn is cute, has lots of charter, very clean and welcoming. The room was comfortable and roomy. The staff was incredibly hospitable. Plus it was dog friendly!

Very relaxed atmosphere, food is always soooo good and every one of their house made drinks and cocktails I've had have been absolutely delicious. The Inn on Winter's Hill is my go-to spot when friends and family are visiting as well as a great local hangout. So lucky to have such an incredible place in Kingfield!

A fabulous place to enjoy a generous host, visually relaxing and also plush with detail and best evening meal in 2 months of North American travel. A fabulous place to enjoy!

This place is a gem! It has a wonderfully warm, relaxed atmosphere. When I meet my friends there, we relax, talk and laugh. It's a great place that selfishly, I hope not too many people discover.

Very quaint and elegant hotel and restaurant in the mountains of Maine. The staff is extremely friendly. It is exceptionally clean and the food was terrific!
