Terrapin Hostel

I needed a room on very short notice, and the terrapins bailed me out, for which I am very grateful!
The room was extremely quiet and clean. The bed was very comfortable, and there was good ventilation. The bathroom was also clean and well-stocked with towels etc. Overall, the place has a really nice, tranquil vibe, and it's in a great location.
I can't think of a single negative thing to say!

This was perfect for me and my dog was allowed, which made it easier for me to spend the day skiing at the loaf and then have a place that night vs. driving back to the portland area. We stayed at the tail end of COVID in 2021 and will definitely go back! Lauran is a great host and speedy with communication. Also super accommodating.

My son and I spent the February vacation week at the Terrapin Hostel in Kingfield while skiing at Sugarloaf. Really nice place and a great value. Clean, cozy, and self serve breakfast is included. Highly recommend!

We loved our stay at Terrapin. It was so clean and comfortable. Lauren was awesome and made sure we had everything we needed and gave us all the great tips on the area. Definitely recommend staying here while in Maine. 10/10 we will be back again!

Terrapin is a little further away from the Appalachian Trail but it's got the best. Lauren gets to be more relaxed with breakfast and his ability to shuttle. The bunks are very comfortable and priced great, the resupply in town is way cheaper than most grocery stores you'll find in Maine, the hostel itself is quiet and has a lot to do, billiards, board games, free to use bicycles, and an on-site laundry machine.

Beautiful house conveniently located in Kingfield. Stores and shops well within walking distance. 2 ski resorts nearby. Excellent hiking location. Lauran, the owner, is a great host. Highly recommend this place and hope to return someday soon.

Great, quiet place to stay. Continental breakfast, free bikes during your stay, convenience store across the street has great food. Nice Dollar General a little ways down the street. Shuttle was $30 from East Flagstaff and a bunk $40

A beautiful place set within walking distance of the Carrabassett River, 20 minutes from Sugarloaf Ski Resort, and surrounded by gorgeous countryside. Plenty of space for a group to stay and Lauran's hospitality and knowledge of the area was great. He knows where to direct you for whatever you're looking for in the Maine countryside. Would definitely recommend a visit to Terrapin Hostel. Will stay again.

Best place in the area!! Lauren is a great host and this is the best place to go if you are skiing or hiking. Lauren is an experienced long distance hiker and a skier. There are private rooms or the traditional communal hostel set up. There are big and little dinner tables and a pool table for the communal rooms. Cannot recommend high enough.

Great little hostel in a beautiful old building with a few private rooms and a shared loft. Very clean and well decorated, it really feels like a home. Lauran is a friendly host and a self-serve breakfast is included. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Sugarloaf or hiking in the area.
