Herbert Grand Hotel

Such an amazing place - the highlight of my trip to Sugarloaf! Fascinating and historically significant, this beautiful old hotel is original condition yet is fully functional and modernized where it needs to be - not where it doesn't. Everything about this place takes you back in time! My room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was modernized yet appeared period-correct (to the extent possible). Note there aren't a lot of electrical outlets, you just have to look and find them. :) The owners are wonderful people who are investing their time and money to keep this place operating. It's just fantastic. If you're into old- or antique-anything, or history, or just want a nice, unique place to stay, the Herbert Grand Hotel is for you! RECOMMENDED!

We had the most wonderful stay at the Herbert Grand Hotel with our two pups. This was our first time here, and absolutely loved the rustic Maine charm. We found ourselves completely enamored with all the antique decorations, my favorite was the phone booths on the main floor. They are incredibly accommodating and cheerful. We booked our stay online, had no issues checking in or out, or finding our way around town. We look forward to a return stay!

This place was excellent! Loaded with old-timey decor and a pool table in the lobby. The rooms were very clean and the staff was really friendly. There was a window unit air conditioner that kept the room nice and cool. Hotel is close to restaurant and gas station and very easy to find. Would definitely stay here again the next time I travel to the region.

Awesome location near Sugarloaf, with some good food options nearby. The staff was very helpful and accommodating, and the inside of the hotel is very cool - I loved the old staircase and layout of the main lobby. We'll definitely stay here again for future ski trips.

New owners, and the place is awesome, Dawn, Brook, and the other have left and the place seems like a dream. A good dream. Stayed two extra night even though there may be spirits, they are good spirits, Nice picture of Dawn on the wall

The Herbert Grand Hotel is a wonderful place to stay. Very clean and quiet. The staff is very respectful, courteous and a joy to talk to about this fabulous place! It is in the center of the town of Kingfield where everything is in walking distance. The prices are the BEST around. I highly recommend The Herbert Grand Hotel!

Beautifully elegant old building, well maintained with old fashioned furniture, fixtures and displays. Comfortable, memorable and inexpensive. Immaculately clean, with new carpets etc. My only criticism is the blinds in my room did not block enough light for me and the sun comes up early in June!

Grand it is. Located in Kingfield, nearby Sugarloaf. The interior was very beautiful, really 1800 vibe. Room was spacious, owners were kind to provide double bed for us, late request. We checked in almost midnight and key handling was arranged accordingly. It’s nearby the main road so some rooms can be a bit noisy but that’s not a problem. Shower was great, toiletries were provided. Clean towels, clean sheets, beautifully decorated 1800 room. There is a nice bar and a cute little gift shop. I bought artisan soap. I am pretty sure I would like to be back!

Beautiful, fully restored hotel filled with antiques, comfy beds, and hot showers. Modern conveniences with an old world feel. Dawn was exceptional and very helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel for a lover's weekend. The charm and staff make this a one of a kind hotel.

Amazing family run hotel. When not in peak season, you end up with a whole stoic hotel to yourself (and a couple other guests) that is extremely quiet and historic. The best part about the Herbert is Dawn, the manger. You should ask her about the hotels history and how she came to run it, as the story is magnificent. Dawn and het staff will do whatever they need to make you comfortable so you enjoy your stay!

We had a great night at Herbert Grand. The building has a lot of charm, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the owners were very friendly. They're also renovating a bar/restaurant area, which would be a lovely addition. There were not a lot of amenities (e.g. no tv in the room), but the charm and the value more than made up for it. Highly recommend!

Was great stay. great staff. Stayed below the famous 318 room love the history there got to take pictures of the haunted room. Loved it. Something definitely spooked our dog

This hotel is old and well maintained. History buffs will love it. There is so much original stuff in here from 1918. It does have window AC units, there are other bits that feel a little aged, but it has so much character. I would definately stay here again.

Wonderful accommodations and the front desk lady was very nice. Popular with skiers at Sugarloaf, and they offer a discount for season pass holders. The building seems very historical and has lots of old equipment on display which is cool.

Our stay was amazing! Great hospitality! This hotel truly offers the feel and character of what a old hotel should have. Not over watered down by the fact its a ski area. I would recommend The Herbert over the any other hotel in the area!

We stayed one night with them and it was great! We were treated like family and not like a number. Room was spacious and clean. Kingfield is beautiful this time of year with the fall foliage

Great hotel from yesteryear have stayed here multiple times over 30 plus years. Dawn will take good care of you as hotel manager and at the bar. Herbert even has live music on occasion.

Old building renovated well to maintain originality. Had a good night's rest in a quant town. Owner's are friendly, helpful, and happy to talk about the hotel's history.

Welcome to Maine. Very homey and welcoming. Not the Ritz, but clean and everything works. Great example of a historical hotel. In this world of chain hotels it was nice to stay somewhere with some character.
