Francis C Carter Memorial Preserve

This beautiful hike runs alongside a serene stream, with trails lined by pine needles that create a soft but occasionally slippery surface. It's an easy trail to traverse, featuring gentle hills. Along the way, you'll find occasional benches for resting. The trail leads past a historical cemetery and opens up to the site of a nuclear disaster that occurred over 60 years ago. We even saw a woman walking her horse through a picturesque field. This is truly a majestic spot in South County, RI.

Great trails for walking / hiking . Not extremely hard. Great place to see nature and relax

Great hiking spot. Well marked, well maintained and even has a map, has some good smooth climbs as well as flat stretches. Ice pond was surprisingly impressive in size. Bowhunting season 9/15-1/31 so wear something for visibility!

Lovely forest with large scrubby meadow area. Good for grassland birds if you are into that kind of thing. Even if you are not, it's still a pleasant walk in nature. Only been here once, but would definitely recommend.

Beautiful, Beautiful Preserve. There are two parking lots and miles and miles of trails. The Preserve has plenty of wild life and you'll find an abundance of peace and quiet. I typically visit during the day and it's rare to see more than a few cars parked at either of the two parking lots. The Preserve is also open to horseback riding and one of the lots provides parking for horse trailers. Additionally, archery deer hunting is permitted so during hunting season bring an orange vest.

One of my favorite places to hike locally. There is a lot of variety in the clearly marked trails.

Best place to hike in Rhode Island. You can hike half a mile and up to seven miles great. place to go with the kids!

Absolutely beautiful hiking trails, clearly marked with enough loops to do a short or long hike . Even has bathrooms!

Great preserve, love the pine forest and pasture. Orange and blue trails are more dense with shrubs.
