I volunteer here, walking dogs & helping around the kennel. Kathy & her team are warm & kind to work with. They care about every single pet who’s here. If you like animals it’s super easy to get started volunteering! Just stop by to fill out an application. They could ALWAYS use more dog walkers!

If you travel America or are looking for real estate, you can tell a lot about a town by the number of missing shopping carts, number of check cashing businessses and the intake numbers of its animal shelters. This is a good woman with a tough job and I appreciate what she did for me today

Thank you for your service to the community

We have adopted four cats over the last 12 years and it has been a great place to get support for animals!! Thank you Kathy!!

Had a very similar experience in terms of dealing with a rude manager as previous reviewers. However, I chalked it up to the woman mentioned having a stressful job. Although she was quite abrasive, she called me the day after I put in my application and met with my cat. I really appreciated that as I had been dealing with foster parents for months who made the adoption process miserable and it was starting to feel like a second job. I liked the fact that my cat was in a kennel separate from the others so that she wouldn’t contract any diseases. When I came to pick her up, the woman was a lot nicer and gave me lots of new toys and catnip to bring home with me. It’s now been almost 2 years with my cat and I’m so happy I had gone there!

Apparently the building is undergoing renovations, had to call the Charlestown Town Hall to get in contact with this animal shelter.

Heartbreaking to see someone manage a shelter that seems to not want to find these animals loving homes. Very unprofessional. Kathy was extremely rude and accusatory. Put in an application for a dog, i called several times to follow up. She never answered and I showed up to her standing next to the phone. Questioned everything i told her in regards to my other dogs in a condescending manner. Was really looking forward to adopting a dog and she made the entire process miserable. She never called me to let me know the status of my application or if the dog was adopted and it’s been several weeks.

The atmosphere at this shelter is very harsh. The staff is unfriendly and unhelpful. From the moment our family walked into this facility the supervisor was very negative and unwilling to let us view the dogs inside the kennel or walk them. We were not allowed the courtesy of interacting with the animals on a one on one basis. My daughter wanted to look at the kittens and that wasn't allowed either. The supervisor at this facility is very unprofessional, unwelcoming and not very forthcoming with information on the adoption process. The impression I get from my experience at this shelter is that they are not interested in finding these poor animals a home. It seems that the general publics visits to this facility is a nuisance to the management.

Called this place to get more information that was given to me from a volunteer there. And the women who answered was SO rude & unpleasant. Literally goes “isn’t there kittens closer to you in your neighborhood” after she asked where I lived.

A horrible place for animals run by a micromanaging, condescending, disrespectful and patronizing supervisor. Conditions are borderline inhumane and it shows in the animals, who are suffering here, I went to see one animal who was mildly skittish and was appalled to learn it had been in their "care" for two months. Any animal is going to display any number of different behaviors after being confined in what essentially is a third world prison and this facility/management should have the moral courage to do what is right and send these animals to a shelter that can properly take care of them.

I’ve come in contact with one individual and agree with the last two reviews. Someone in authority, not anyone there, should review and replace these people with people who truly animals
