El Zocalo Mexican Restaurant

This is by far the best Mexican food that I have tasted in Richmond. Their food never disappoints. Everything is freshly made and seasoned perfectly. You can easily drive by it as it's right off Route 301 and Patrick Henry Hwy in what looks like a little house. But don't be fooled. You won't be disappointed!

AMAZING! The BEST FLAN EVER! they make their own flan fresh in house! Delicious soapapillas! Yummy burritos and more Mexican food! Clean bathrooms! Friendly staff! Dog friendly patio! Plenty of parking. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

My son and I went again tonight and I can still say...One wouldn't expect to find such a wonderful Mexican restaurant in rural Hanover, but I'm here to say it's the best in RVA! When my son told me about El Zocalo, I was skeptical, due only to the location near Hanover Courthouse. I'm so glad he found this gem. We visited on a weeknight and didn't have to wait for a table. Service was prompt and professional, and the margarita was wonderful and tasted fresh. The food is beautifully prepared and so tasty. The seasoned beef and chicken is tender and authentic. Burritos Fajitas are excellent!

I've only been here a few times but I'll definitely keep going back if in the area! Their food is authentic, palate pleasing & eye pleasing as well! This place is definitely not your run of the mill cookie cutter Mexican restaurant thank goodness! The beans are incredible, quite possibly the best I've ever had anywhere! The staff is beyond professional and pleasant! Keep up the great work everyone and thank y'all for preparing such delicious food & cocktails!

Glad we stopped at "El Zocalo Mexican Restaurant" after leaving a car show fundraiser at Meadow Event Park. We were driving on 301 discussing where we would stop for some lunch and saw El Zocalo just ahead of us. I was already thinking this looks good to me, when my old friend & coworker said "what do you think of here?" I love Mexican food was my response. So we stopped in. The smallish building is sharp looking, clean and inviting. Everyone working there was great; very friendly, helpful, fast and efficient. The food was great; presentation, taste and the amount was plenty. I had their great tasting unsweet tea and Tacos De Carnitas with their habanero sauce. G had the "Burrito Chipotle w/ chicken". We both enjoyed our visit there. The delicious & well prepared food, the atmosphere and the friendly efficient staff were great.
We also were served chips & salsa while we were looking at the menu and preparing to order. Salsa & Chips were delicious also. I Recommend a visit.

Big portions of delicious food. I had Tacos Pastor, and the blend of flavors was perfect. My wife enjoyed chicken and spinach quesadilla very much. The margaritas are very good - three sizes available.

This little spot has amazing food at reasonable prices and huge portions! The servers were very attentive and we sat on the patio. The server had great recommendations and we bought everything he suggested. The nachos are amazing and the chorizo specifically at this place is authentic! Stop by for family night or date night and you will be glad you did!

Very good food! House sauce’s were unique and tasty. The customer service was also good and the owner talked with us! It’s a cute little place to eat!

Chris the server was excellent. Very nice, hard worker, and attentive. The food was pretty good. The rice needed to have some more seasoning. The fried ice cream was awesome! Nice restaurant.

El Zocalo is a welcome addition to this area of Hanover. Absolutely wonderful food, provided quickly with the most personable service. The waitstaff are so welcoming and friendly. We often go to dinner with our elderly family members who can be very picky and ask many questions about their food. The staff are very patient and have accommodated any request.
Dogs are also welcome on the patio. They even bring out water for the pups!
We frequent this restaurant and have a great experience every time.

El Zocalo has been a favorite restaurant destination for my family. I couldn’t even tell you the amount of times we have visited, haha! They have fantastic food and staff! This place is MUCH better than the big brand franchise options.

This place is an absolute treasure. It is not your typical Mexican restaurant. I ordered the tacos El Pollo, rice and black beans, and variety of hot sauces. All fresh ingredients, eye pleasing plating, prompt and delicious. I sat on the cozy covered patio out front, it was 70 and sunny with a slight breeze. Perfect weather for tacos. My server was Ivan and he was friendly, engaging, knew the menu and helped create a very welcoming environment. I wish I could give El Zocalo more than five stars.

Instantly greeted and sat. Staff very friendly and atmosphere is great. Got a steak/spinach burrito thing and it was the perfect balance between spice, flavors, and aesthetically pleasing. I could only eat half!
Waitress was very attentive while also not being over-bearing and hovering. I will definitely return!!!!

Food and service were amazing. I had the Pollo Asado, my wife had Chori Pollo, my daughter had a taco salad. And other daughter had a couple tacos. Food was fresh, and hot. I will definitely return.

Wonderful local Mexican restaurant. My go-tos are the Birria Tacos if I'm feeling indulgent or any of the fajitas with an extra order or tortillas to take a portion home for lunch the next day. The guac is yummy too. Great quality food, not inexpensive, but worth the price and I'm grateful a restaurant at this location is pricing themselves in a sustainable way, I live close by and have a vested interest in their longevity!!

Love practicing my Spanish with the wait staff too, they're so supportive and helpful and always provide great service in both languages.

This place is consistently 5-stars! I have eaten here several times since it opened, and each time I ordered something different and it has all been excellent. The service is wonderful, and the ingredients are fresh and flavorful! It is always busy, which tells me that many other locals enjoy eating here. Regardless of the busyness, the service is always top notch, and I have never had to wait long for a table or for my food. If you give this place a try, you will not be disappointed!

We love this place! Authentic El Salvadorian food in Richmond’s vicinity. So tasty and they are very friendly family. Try their mojitos too!

Great salsa and mouth watering burritos! Try the El Zocalo burrito for a bounty of bursting flavors and savory seasonings. Fast and friendly service dining in or take out! Glad to have them in our area!

Loved it! A lovely surprise on a trip that forced us to take the road they're on. Great food, excellent service. Sopapillas were awesome!

I had vegetarian Quesadilla with rice. It was delicious. The rice was excellent and the Quesadilla were full of refried beans , cheese and mushrooms.
