Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries

I was heading home from OBX, and wanted a quick meal that wasn't the same old ordinary...found Hwy 55 on Google maps, and figured I'd give it a try. This place looks so innocuous and rather bland from outside, but the inside is an explosion of 50s era diner nostalgia! I missed the decade by about 25 years, but there was a great vintage feel...the staff was quick and efficient; the cashier lady was helpful and friendly.
I ordered a Shrimp Burger, a Pimento Bacon Burger, and onion rings...the food came quickly (but not in a "been under the heatlamp for an hour" way), and it was perfectly cooked; delicious and filling!
They have a pretty large menu, and the flatop grill and fryers are right behind the counter, in view of the customers.
While it is well lit and looked pretty clean, it does appear to be an older building, in need of some renovations; but overall I enjoyed my experience, and will likely return next time I'm in the area.

Food was delicious! The price could not be beat… especially after coming from the coast. Very friendly service. Don’t judge this book by its cover.

We went there again tonight (12/6) and got awesome food, bacon cheeseburger, fries and one of the best chocolate shakes in this part of NC. However our last visit couple months ago was disappointing, I think it mainly depends on who is working. Today was delicious and exactly what you would expect from a burger place. Please keep those employees from today!!!

The service was great, and seeing how this was my first visit to a Highway 55 restaurant, I really liked all the 1950's decorations inside!

The food was sooooo delicious! I LOVE the fact they have a John Boy and Billy burger! I use to eat the John Boy and Billy sauce on everything as a kid! Shrimp PoBoy was amazing also! There was a wait for our food but it came out HOT !!

Shrimp poboy was huge and full of shrimp. Great taste and fair price for the amount of food. Servers were friendly. Wife said the 6 piece was more than enough to split and taste good.

Great hamburgers, fries and sweet tea! One of the last places to eat for a while, if you are leaving The Outer Banks. The service was good and timely. It wasn’t very busy when we stopped by.

We enjoyed our meal and the milk shake was possibly the best I have ever had. The shake was small but very good. The burgers and cheese steaks were good. Overall we had a good time and would happily go back but this place has a lot of potential to be a great restaurant.

I've been impressed by Hwy 55. Every location I've been to, the burgers are served hot. It's so nice to get a meal where the meat is still hot off the grill. The service here was fantastic. They went above and beyond and really worked to make our visit a positive one. Fantastic job!

Not much to speak about from the outside, but the food is fabulous. The Philadelphia steak sandwich is one of the best I have ate. The bread is baked locally, fresh and very tasty. The wife enjoyed the shrimp salad. Will definitely come back if in the area!

Always great! My daughter and her boyfriend are visiting, they couldn't wait to get to Highway 55 for dinner. The menu has a great description of the options. Before going through he had already picked out the John Boy & Billy BBQ!

Stopped there on the spur of the moment. Could not call in order due to poor cell phone service. It literally took them no more than 15 minutes to prepare our delicious food and bring it to us. Great service, fantastic food
and friendly staff.

Always have a wonderful experience! Food comes out quick and hot! My favorite is a half chicken philly/half steak philly with all of the fixings of course! You cannot go wrong with that! Oh and the lemonade, is off the chain! Very affordable as well!

Is this place still open
Went by on June 18th and June 25 around 2pm and was closed both times. Used to look forward to this stop on the way to OBX

Best Highway 55 Burger I have ever had! I asked for it to be put on lettuce and they actually put a piece of lettuce on the bottom and a piece of lettuce on top. I was able to eat it like a sandwich even with all trimming!

Excellent Sanitation Rating 97%, Great Manager, Good Food and Friendly Staff. They can get busy, but work hard to provide good food and service to customers. Thank You for another great lunch!

We stopped here for lunch and the service was wonderful. It was my daughter's birthday and the waitress gave her a $5 gift card so she could come back for a milkshake.

The burger and the fries were awesome hot and fresh it was absolutely delicious I even told the waitress to tell the cook that that was it awesome Burger it had bacon on it and everything was nice and hot I really enjoyed it thank you
