Schoolhouse Bar-B-Que

I love this place. I just get take out when I'm passing through. They've been there a long time and know how to cook. Friendly staff and great food. The Que is perfect to my taste and the bar b que chicken is awesome.

Schoolhouse's pepper & vinegar-sauced pulled pork was awesome! I added extra sauce to it and hid the cracklins underneath (to sop up some of that great sauce). They also have a great slaw to go along with it. The rest of the buffet is great but I'm here for the BBQ.

They are cash only, ($13 per adult) so come prepared, but if not there is an ATM onsite.

The greatest strength at Schoolhouse (and don't forget the BBQ is awesome) is their wonderful staff. Hats off to each of them, especially to Lynn & Duke who made us feel like we were eating with family. I thoroughly enjoyed their hospitality which was shown with all humility. They are a blessing and we will look forward to seeing them and catching up with them on our next visit.

My husband went to this place last week and liked it so much we decided to go back so I could enjoy it too. Awesome history, atmosphere is very homey and comfortable. Great selection of comfort food. Lots of new and different local cuisine. Really something for everyone. Debra is an awesome, personable server.

First visit and the food was amazing!! My eyes was bigger than my stomach and I consumed heavily. The tea was perfectly sweet and I enjoyed every bit of this country spread!! 5 star menu... no need to add seasoning!

Visited with friends while we were in Darlington and this was hands down the best BBQ, the greens were the best I’ve ever had! Amazing southern hospitality!

This restaurant was built in the small town of Scranton South Carolina when I was just a little girl. Oddly this was the first time I had eaten here. I was absolutely amazed! The only issue I had with this restaurant was that it did not take debit or credit cards. They do however have a ATM machine at this location.

I come in town quite frequently from FL. to hunt locally have been for about 9 years .. my brother that lives here brought me to lunch here telling me I was gonna love the fried chicken.. he was dam sure right.
The fried chicken here is the best I've ever ate anywhere including my momma's (sorry momma u raised me not to lie) ... great food .. great service 👏 👍

Our Corvair Car Club has decided to make this are regular meet and eat.
They have a separate room for events and great food. Very casual and convenient with folks coming from different locations an hour away.

Southern food at its finest. BBQ.
Buffet style food, sides and dessert, all you can eat inside the restaurant.
The cost was comparable with other restaurants, and plenty of room to sit and enjoy the food.
Cash only as they do not take cards but they do have an ATM inside if you need cash.

The drive from Irmo to Scranton SC School House barbeque was very scenic and easy. The food at School House barbeque is delicious and service is wonderful, the folks treat you like a loving family. We ate so much food and they Charge so little. Will be going back.

Rode to the School House BBQ with the Throttle Down Motorcycle Ministries RC on Saturday. Beautiful Scenic ride to Scranton,SC . The building reminded me of a Nostalgic Old meeting Hall setting. The buffet offered southern comfort food priced at only $10 all you could eat. Clean, friendly Staff, Happy environment,Yummy comfort food, and huge parking lot across the street at the closed gas station for additional parking. All Required CDC Protocols were followed( No touching spoons without disposable gloves, masks worn by all staff, social distancing and low capacity).

The food is incredible! The buffet is clean and well organized, easy to move through as you survey all the great things. The pulled pork was wonderful and there was a smoked sausage that was also very good.

Food is good. Buffet style eating place. Lots of space if you have a large group.

Good Buffet,a decent variety with really nice ppl. They let groups ( church, etc) come in and work for tips by serving drinks and bussing tables. No mashed potatoes though 😕 lol

We always enjoy stopping at Schoolhouse BBQ. Always a welcoming environment. The food is always fresh. Last time we stopped, the youth group from Effingham Church of God was waiting tables, and they did a wonderful job. It was nice to see the younger generation trying to help others

Wonderful small town local place! Food is excellent, employees are friendly and very helpful! Loved it!!

Good food usually, but not today. Pork chops fried to death, so dry I could not chew them, rice was clumpy and sticky on the buffet, dessert choices were dried out and unappealing, beans were way over salted. For $12 per person for lunch, we were extremely disappointed and don't plan to visit again anytime in the near future.
UPDATE. Price has increased to $13 for lunch now. That does include drink you pour yourself, but honestly it's too much in my opinion. I will say the BBQ chicken was good, but biscuits were dry and desserts are still very unappealing. This time was to treat a friend, and she was unimpressed as well. I think Schoolhouse was a great place in the past, but they could definitely be better.
