Barney's Cove Lobster Co

Drove up from Pennsylvania to buy live Maine lobsters. Didn't know which place to buy them. There are so many to choose from. I googled Maine lobster pounds and shacks. I chose Barney's Cove Lobster Co. because they are a wholesale company that will sell to the little guy. It was a fantastic experience!!! Driving over the bridge onto the island, it was exactly what comes to mind. Small local boats filling the cove. A few were working. Made my way to Barney's. As I pulled in there was a truck being loaded with large tubs filled with water and lobsters. After waiting for the truck to leave, I asked the guy on the forklift if he sold lobster to the public. He said certainly!! Asked if I wanted soft shell or hard. Said hard should make it. We walked down to the dock, he opened a section, pulled out a basket full of lobster. Bought 20lbs. He ran down to the rocks and grabbed an arm's load of seaweed and layered it on my ice then the lobsters then more seaweed. The most hospitable salesperson I have ever met. I was able to make it all the way home from Barney's Cove with all 15 lobstas alive. My brother and I steamed all 15 lobstas and ate 3. I hope I can get my brother there next year and meet the man who helped me do something awesome for my brother with stage 4 lung cancer

This is Not a restaurant. It is an active lobster dock. If you would like to buy live lobsters this is one of a few docks that you can purchase them at dock prices. Try to park out of the way active loading and workers coming and going. Bring a cooler or bucket to carry your lobster in. 08/06/2022

Outstanding place to get your lobster on Beals island. We bought a load two nights in a row and just loved the experience. Wonderful family business and a great way to get to know where the lobsters come from. Easy to do business with them, wished they shipped to Louisiana!

Stopped there Sunday at three and there was no sign that the place was really open anymore. The business building was there but it just looked like a disused office inside and no sign with any updated hours. Maybe they were just closed that day
