Anvil Restaurant & Saloon

Wow, what a wonderful place in Ste. Genevieve. When you visit try them. I grew up in St. Louis County, though, no longer live in the area and always "drove by"... this time, we visited and will return.
It is a nice experience.
The onion rings are a must try.

We had lunch, grilled chicken and catfish sandwiches that we shared. Sandwiches were fresh and tasty. Sides chosen were a side salad and German fried potatoes. Nice, wide choice of sides including onion rings and mashed potatoes & gravy. Service was relatively fast and friendly.

Our bartender did a great job making our drinks. He gave a great history lesson about the building and town. The burgers had a fresh taste and onion rings are homemade. Loved it!

I absolutely love this place. I have a picky eater child and he even asks to come to the Anvil and says they have the best chicken strips! I have been there multiple times and I’ve NEVER had bad service, bad food, or received my check, drinks/refills, and food in not a timely manner. Every visit is a pleasure all around. They are so friendly and helpful no matter who is working. I will always continue to take my family here to eat!

The atmosphere is truly amazing! It is like stepping back in time into an old saloon as soon as you walk in the front door. It isn't a very big restaurant, I would say maybe 10 to 12 tables, but worth the wait!! I loved all the historic photos covering the walls and loved how they kept the originality instead of rehabbing it. This place is truly a gem and must see!!!!

The best Onion Rings I've ever had, ever. Even took another order with us.
Look forward to going back on our next trip through there.

The food was amazing! I had the open faced mushroom burger with German fries, it was delicious! The homemade jambalaya was so good!

Absolutely AMAZING Onion Rings! (I already ate them all-oops.)
They are so full of flavor, but better than carnival food (as comparison), very light batter without the greasy mess! Just really good, light and flavorful Onion Rings!
The bacon cheeseburger was good, definitely fresh made & the Anvil Club was as good as any Club sandwich I’ve had.
Now, The coup de grace to my taste buds was the Coconut Cream Pie! Tallest meringue I’ve ever seen, sweet, yet fluffy & light! Did I mention, YUMMY!?!

Very good food. My son had the burger and loved it. He's very picky so that means a lot.

You want a good experience. Go here. My wife and I hadn't been back here since it changed owners. They kept everything good the former owners had and built on that. The onion rings are an absolute must. You have to try them. My wife had a grilled chicken salad. It was good except they did leave the lettuce core in by mistake. I had the club. It was actual carved roasted turkey, not sliced deli meat, crisp smokey bacon on a fresh hoagie roll. We were very pleased and will try to make a road trip from Cape more often. I want the fried chicken.

Food was great. Service was excellent. One of our party had food allergies and they bent over backward to accommodate.

We had the fried chicken. It's good but not worth the 20 minute wait. Onion rings are also good. Great location for exploring downtown.

So friendly, I had a luchen I thought was at 11- but no one was there. They checked the book and it was at 12:00

Great restaurant. Good variety of American foods extremely well prepared. I had a BLT with substantial bacon slices, a cup of well seasoned vegetable beef soup, and an enormous piece of coconut cream pie with about a 1.5" of meringue precisely toasted. Really delicious. Highly recommend.

Great atmosphere, warm old-style saloon and restaurant. Friendly staff. The service was just a tad slow but may have been short-handed. Our dinners were wonderfully prepared and very flavorful. Try the grilled chicken breast. Grilled. Mmhh, melt in your mouth good!
