The building is rare and valuable. The guide is awesome and telling us a lot of details, especially for the life back to 1800s. Two houses contained in the tour, one is early and anther is built by the daughter.

Very well preserved, vertical wood structure, French colonial home. The original portion of the home getting close to 250 years old. Hard to find buildings that old in Missouri. Go over to the Centre for French Colonial Life to see some of the artifacts from the period.

Tour of this house and the somewhat newer one next door are $10 a person. My wife and I essentially got a private tour and our tour guide was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and had a knack for keeping the tour interesting. Took about 30 minutes.

In Ste Genevieve Mo, you will find a unique step into the past. I enjoyed going through this house and visiting all the other unique stores and scenery around the community. It is a great place to spend a day or a weekend.

Well worth the trip and so informative. Also learn about the Battle of Ft San Carlos and the French connection to the region.

Great little museum! The staff were all so friendly and very knowledgeable about the history of the area. I would definitely recommend taking the tour of the 2 homes. Museum is free and tour is $10/person.

The museum was very interesting. A lot of information about the early days of the settlement. French folks whe founded a town in the region governed by the Spanish. Facinating collection of muskets used to fend off the British. The tour of the houses was informative. Pete was an excellent guide.

On Wednesday morning my mother, nephew and I visited this museum in Ste. Genevieve, MO. The tour guide (a woman with dark hair) was absolutely wonderful. Since my 11 year old nephew was with us, she really welcomed him and made it an enjoyable learning experience for him. She answered all of our questions and really knew the history well. Not only was she knowledgeable but so very kind. The museum and homes we toured were amazing. The Centre has done a marvelous job restoring and maintaining the homes they have purchased. I hope they are able to earn enough donations to restore other homes in the area because they have outdone themselves on the homes they have been able to acquire. You can tell the staff love Ste. Genevieve and the history. This is a must-see! (All the staff was warm and inviting but I wanted note the tour guide as she had done such a great job and was passionate about her history.) Thank you!

This museum is extremely informative and has a spectrum of artifacts that provide context and insight to the first settlers of the area and their interaction with the indigenous cultures. My family enjoyed the local historian in reenactment attire and character stories. Well worth the small entry fee!

I honestly don't know who loved it more my boy's or myself. I loved the charm and beauty of the houses and shop's. The folks were so friendly and answered any and all questions that my inquisitive son's had. My boy's were quite upset when we had to head home, they are begging to come back. Honestly they didn't have to beg I didn't want to leave either.
We loved it!

I think Ste Genevieve MO is the newest National Park and is the oldest settlement west of the Mississippi. Some well preserved original homes are available for tours mixed in with others currently still in use as businesses, restaurants, and family homes. The museum is very nice and our guide through one of the homes was knowledgeable and helpful. The town retains a lot of it's small town country charm. We'll be back.

This is one of those hidden gems that we delight in finding when we travel. It is architecturally interesting, the cultural history is something that is becoming a forgotten part of our past. And the guides tell the story in a way that relates both locally and in the larger context of the development of "The West". And most importantly, they tell the whole story.
Thanks Kathy for a wonderful tour!

Very well appointed muesum. Ashley was amazing. I felt as though I were a VIP. Receiving a one on one tour of both houses was very informative and inspiring. She was extremely knowledgeable about the items and materials throughout both homes. Never did I feel rushed or hurried in anyway and was repeatedly asked if their was anything else I would like to know in each of the rooms and outdoor areas. If you are in the area take the time to tour not only the homes but also the muesum. You do not have to be a history buff to enjoy information about the oldest settlement/city West of the Mississippi River. They also include hands on tours for kids or school groups. You will not believe all the period correct and historical items located throughout the exhibit.

The museum was fantastic, not huge, but professionally done and hugely informative. But the highlight was the tour of the historical homes. Ashley’s guidance was excellent...she was so knowledgeable and eager to share...and so gracious in answering our many questions! Highly recommend!
