Mount Deception Camping Area

My dad used to bring us every year for Columbus day weekend. Had a blast at Carl's campground! Does he still do the huge bonfires? One year it had an old camper in the middle of the fire, it was awesome!! Miss this place, hope to visit again soon.

Four of us rolled up on our bicycles and Carl and Lisa were so accommodating. They let us hang out for over an hour on the porch waiting for a thunderstorm to pass.

The campground was well maintained, with picnic tables and fire rings. Carl dropped off wood for a reasonable fee and made sure we were all set. The bathhouse was a welcome sight and includes laundry and hot showers.

There were numerous campers who clearly had season-long spots and everyone was super friendly. I'm hoping this could be a place I could bring my camper bus in the future.

Me and my boyfriend and our friend decided on a last minute camping trip, coming from MA and getting out of work late we didn’t get into the mountains until about 3AM, everywhere was booked or you needed reservations and NO dogs were allowed. We found this place and pitched up a tent hoping we could pay in the morning and the owner WAITED until we woke up and he drove to us and let our dog stay. He was very kind, the also offer wood and ice on the site. All hiking and swimming holes are extremely close and there’s a gas station/store right up the street.

Having been coming here regularly for almost 15 years. Always feels like home. Some of the facilities feel dated compared to newer larger comp grounds but they don’t have the same camping feeling you get here.

A wonderful campground and lovely owners who were so helpful to us with finding our spot! We will definitely be returning and cannot wait to see the Black Bear again!

Has nice river fall to swim and fish at. Low key camping.

Had an absolute blast here!. Very friendly campers, owner deserves 10 stars for his effort, attitude, helpfulness, etc. Facilites are a little dated but overall great place for our ladies weekend get away.
