Billy the Kid Country Inn

This place is the absolutely awesome. Come early stay late. I’ve stayed in a lot of places with work and travel a lot in different areas and I just love places like this. Locally owned and operated with great customer service. Yes it’s a no smoking and no pets place and it’s awesome.
Very clean, friendly & knowledgeable and the owner makes you feel like a part of the family. Very budget friendly (way under priced for the charm & Cleanliness). This is definitely gonna be my regular stop when traveling through the area.
If you ever just want to get away and take a drive through the area you should definitely stay here.
Ive stayed in a lot of mainstream places that you think “I should wear shoes or socks while walking around”, this is not like that. Ya it’s a little older place but it’s CLEAN and a 1/3 the price and well worth it. Definitely a thumbs up.

We are bicycle touring and could not camp tonight because of the weather. Upon arrival Elaine walked through the impeccably clean room to make sure it was alright before we paid. She was a treat to talk to and a wealth of knowledge of this town. She has been running this inn for 44 years and it’s been in the family for generations. Stay here and support local business!! If you stay here and get breakfast from The Daily Grind (a delicious meal in a cozy quaint setting), it’s still less money than the larger hotel across the street. Endless coffee is served in the morning and the room has microwave and refrigerator. I particularly enjoyed my bath, the back wall of the tub was sloped just right! Stay here!!

I have not stayed at Billiy the Kid Country Inn but still highly recommended it. I called this past Tuesday to get a room in late May but they were booked for my desired time. Ms. Elaine (I hope the spelling is correct) told me she would call back by Friday if there was a cancelation. She did call back Friday evening to tell me there had not been any cancelations. There are not many businesses that would have made the effort to call back. She is a woman of her word. During our two conversations I think I learned more about the Lincoln County War than I could have found in any library.

Just passing through on our to Santa Fe and looked online for an overnight. Billy the Kid Inn popped up as an independently owned small motel . Although the reviews weren’t recent, they were unanimously good . They reported it was clean , well maintained and had an owner who cared about her guests. I honestly hesitated since the rate was so low, but so glad we took the chance. Elaine is such a sweetheart and runs the place singlehandedly. It is very basic, but so clean and exactly what we needed for a quick overnight. Please support small business and give this small motel a chance. Elaine will make your day.

Clean and Comfortable are the first descriptions that come to mind but both are in a in a cut throat race with Friendliness because all three are overly abundant. The chieftain of the Inn Elaine has an iron word and I don't know how she holds it all together with no help or employees but she does. This place is better than some very well known hotels we've stayed at in the past and will certainly be back when we are in the area.

Elaine at this hotel, is an amazingly wonderful human being. She puts her heart and soul into this hotel, and every guest is treated as if they are an old friend, whether they have stayed there multiple times or they are staying for the first time ever. She does all she can to ensure your stay here is outstanding. I would give this hotel a thousand stars if I could!!!! I can't say enough good things about her and this hotel. Truly!!!

Stayed there last March. From Wisconsin and must say the owner made us feel like we were a local. She had so much historical knowledge she shared. The place was very clean. The bonus is we were across from the billy the kid museum and down the road was the Bosque Redondo Memorial ( don’t miss ). For breakfast we ate at the Daily Grind, the food and service was also excellent. So starting with the Billy the Kid country inn we had a phenomenal time.

What a great place to stay. I stayed the night on my way to Sturgis Bike Rally. I arrived late and Elaine gave me a great room!! I was hungry and asked where to eat. Elaine called the burger joint down the road, Which was about to close. She had them stay open and make me a burger. Elaine went out of her way to make sure I was happy. The room was clean and comfortable. It was what I needed after a long ride. I will most definitely be back someday. She had great stories and knew all about the history of the area. Elaine I wish you the best, and hope you make it to see the ocean someday!! Thank you for your hospitality!!

Comfortable and affordable, the owner clearly cares about her guests and takes care of all the work herself. Elain is a lovely person who uses her own home to look after the towns stray cats, as well.

I'm happy with my stay. Doesn't have to be fancy to be a warm and comfortable experience. I'll be coming again and would happily recommend this motel to a friend.

For this place being a little roadside inn, my wife and I enjoyed the hospitality that the owner gave us, she welcomed us with a hand shake and a smile and the room was small quite and relaxing. Very clean and comfortable. For us, it was better then the big chain hotels. Also you can't beat the price. We highly recommend this place, just remember, this is not one of your big hotel chains, but the owner is very helpful.

My husband and I were on a little sightseeing trip and found this little motel on the internet. What a lucky find it was. We travel a lot and stay in many motels. This is probably the cleanest one we have ever had. The lady that owns it is so sweet and friendly. She has always lived in Ft Sumner and has a wealth of knowledge and history to share. So glad we found it.

Most people forget about the family owed business they just pass them up. But if you ever come through Fort Sumner,NM you have to stay here. Nothing fancy no free breakfast but you get a clean room and a pleasant smile and hand shake from the owner Ellen. Somethings in life can’t be replaced with motel chain points. I gave this place a five-star rating because the lady that owns it is just purely a wonderful lady and wants you to be happy with your stay . The room was clean it smelled clean and she had a pot of coffee on in the morning for you . I would recommend this place to anybody passing through fort Sumner

Very nice little hotel. Very clean room's and lot. Elaine, the owner, is extremely nice and if you need anything, she will help. I will stay here every time I'm there and she has a room available.

Elaine is a wonderful proprietor and a lovely woman. Rooms clean. She makes an effort to have your coffee ready in the morning. Convenient to all the Billy the Kid memorabilia.

I actually am planning a trip to the South West to pay my respects to Billy the Kid, and see Roswell while I'm there. This Motel comes Highly Recommended.

Great place to stay. Clean rooms great price and the owner is great. Showed up without a reservation and she was very accommodating finding me a room. Will come back

A great little find. The bed even had a mattress foam padding. The room was large, and well cared for. The owner was especially nice.

Amazing service, old motel, well kept, clean. Comfortable for my wife and I after 10 hours on our motorcycle.
