Cannot recommend this outfitter enough. Two of us were looking for a good guide for a day that we knew would be challenging due to high temps and late in the season.
Hadley was our guide and exceeded expectations in every possible way - he knows how to fish, he put us into some great spots, he kept things fun, and we caught fish (browns, bows, cuttys, and more)!
Great when you have a guide like Hadley (also a shout out to the guide Marty!) who delivers on all fronts and someone you look forward to fishing with again in the future.
Kudos guys!

Very impressed with their professionalism and their deep love for trout and fly fishing. I came out with 0 fly experience. Our guide Marty coached me up and we caught fish! Highly recommended for Nubes, like me! Others in our group had 30yrs experience and they were equally impressed. They made our trip memorable.

We did a last-minute float trip with Brisman down the Beaverhead river. Brisman said we'd be fishing for trophy trout and he wasn't wrong. We got into some great fish and caught a bunch of them on dry flies. Sight fishing to big fish on dry flies... about as good as it gets! Brisman was great. Stonefly will be my first call for guide work in the twin bridges area next trip!

I have made several trips to Stonefly Inn & Outfitters, and have nothing but high praise for the entire operation. You’re fishing some of the greatest trout streams in the world, and everything about the guides, accommodations, and food is unmatched. The guides work extremely hard to put you the client in a position to catch fish, and the evenings around the fire pit are legendary. If you don’t have fun while you’re at Stonefly, then you may need to seek medical attention as you might not have the capacity for fun at all. It’s my go to spot in Montana for trout fishing!

In 2017 I was able to talk my wife into making a "quick" trip to Montana on a vacation to Colorado for a day of fishing. I had been eyeing a trip with the Stonefly for a few years before, and I finally got my chance. I reached out and Holly was able to get us fixed up with a day on the water with Ty. Ty was great! He kept us on the fish all day, was great to talk to and made the whole spur of the moment trip to Montana a blast for my wife and I. That one day trip has brought us back to Montana every year since just to fish a few days with the folks from the Stonefly. So if you are reading this comment and are on the fence about spending some time at the Stonefly just go ahead pull the trigger and do it. You won't regret one second of it.

This is the best fly shop in Montana. I have fished a lot of rivers in this state and stopped in way too many fly shops. All roasters guides are very knowledgeable on flys, flows, how to fish the set up and have a lot of access you won’t see otherwise. Big trout in small streams, you won’t find a better place.

Rooster, Holly and the entire staff was top notch. We had 8 people staying at the inn and fishing with Stonefly's guides and we couldn’t of had a better time. Do yourself a favor and go experience SW Montana the right way booking through Stonefly Outfitters

My wife and I spent part of our 25th anniversary with the crew of the Stone Fly Inn. Operations wise they have it down, the inn rooms are better than just a place to settle after a day of putting fish in the net. The "roost" is a very well kept community room with cooking and grilling capacity.
The crew is how epic things happen here, Rooster, Holly, Gary, and the other guides are top notch. They know the water, the bugs, the fish and the different abilities of the anglers they fish with. Montana is everything they say it it, S.W. Montana is magical, and this crew brings it all to life.

When visiting an area to fish and you need a resource… some flies, a guide, or just some solid advice… you ask yourself, which of these shops are the real deal? And which ones are the tourist traps? Let me save you the wondering. Chose Stonefly Outfitters. Just do it. You’re welcome.

When you think about going to a great trout fishing destination, you need to consider what's really important: 1) access to top quality water; 2) experienced guides who know how to put you on fish; 3) comfortable accommodations and good food; and 4) a fun atmosphere. The Stonefly checks all of those boxes and many more, but the real secret is their commitment to making sure each guest has a wonderful experience. After having fished in a whole lot of places with a whole lot of people, I can comfortably say that you won't find a harder working, more professional, more enthusiastic and just downright FUN group of folks than the Stonefly crew. Lastly, if available, I always recommend booking the Dave Priebus cabin for the incredible views!

Recently booked our third trip to the Stonefly Inn to for my 60 th birthday with my son. We could not think of a better place to celebrate. The people are top notch, the guides are knowledgeable, fun and hard working, and the trout fishing cannot be matched. Add some casual comfortable accommodations and a first rate staff and you are in for memories that will last a lifetime. There are lots of others places we could go to fly fish for trout but with 4 blue ribbon rivers and all the advantages the Stonefly Inn offers, why?

How do you go about fly fishing an area that is already a world-renowned destination and expect to get anything more than warmed-over leftovers? Simple, you call the guys that helped make the fishery so special to begin with...Rooster, Gary, Gray, & the gang know not only the water, but the bugs, the best put-ins & float sections given the weather/wind/temps, etc. They also live in this gorgeous corner of the world most of the year and aren't "guns for hire" off in Russia or Argentina chasing fish in MT's "off" season.

Rooster has a team that "gets it done", whether preparing a tasty gourmet-level sandwich for a float, or back-rowing in fast water for one or two more swings over a spot that surely holds trout, (assuming you can get the fly to the designated target/depth at the right moment. If you can't, no problem, and no criticism from the center seat. Just a helpful critique on what to do differently next time you are set-up in a "fishy" spot. BBBB-BINGO!)

Stonefly Inn & Flyshop is also a wonderful partner and stewards to the valleys and rivers they fish through their support of the Ruby Habitat Foundation, the Montana Land Reliance, and the local TU chapters. They not only talk the talk, they walk the walk, and row the rivers. Do yourself a favor and experience Montana with folks who love to share what it is that makes this part of the world so special, and the fishing can be really awesome as well with their help...

The staff and host are 24k people. The fishing experience is a great memory maker. Garey will make you catch a trophy. Charlie, we’ll bring a counter, it’s hard to keep up. Iron CHef Steve and Mrs. Avis complete the package. Just book before I do again.

Love this place! It was my first time fishing for brown trout and it did not disappoint! Such a blast!
The guides are awesome and the fire at the end of the night is so fun.

It’s impossible to fake authenticity. Rooster is a fishy dude, always has been, and so are all his guides. They have the water, they have the fish and they have the knowledge. But, beyond that, they know how to make memories.
Fish here. You won’t be disappointed.

If you're looking for leviathan trout paired with really good Moscow mules, you've found the winning ticket here. The Stonefly provides the best entertainment west of the Mississippi along with all the amenities to make your Montana stay truly fun and memorable.

Rooster and his crew are some of the best in the business-. The amount of days these guys spend on the water is parallel to none. If you want to experience southwest Montana, book with Rooster and Co. They are the real deal. I used to frequent his shop while in college and received nothing but honest and genuine feedback.
