Take the dirt road that runs along the side of beaverhead rock. No signs to tell you to turn in just a dirt road. There is a parking area near an empty state park board. A few trails just down the dirt road that will take you to some great views. Worth the trip.

Beautiful views. Like others said, just take the dirt road off of 41 and you'll come across a state park board and a small parking area. It was a little muddy but I made it in my Mazda 2 with no trouble. A couple people in the reviews further down said private ranchers bought all the land. No idea if this is true, but I didn't run into any issues and was able to hike unbothered. The private land is clearly fenced and goes around the other side of the hill. Just don't go through any gates and you're still on public land.

It ain't much but it's a honest stop. Take the scenic route and observe history. Lewis and Clark passed through here. Interesting landmark with rich history.

Family had an awesome morning hiking up the rock and seeing some stunning views from the top across plains with mountains in the background. It took 1hr 45 altogether with three kids in tow (3, 4 & 6) which included stops for water, photos and some snacks at the top while we enjoyed the views. 4 & 6 walked it all themselves, 3 yr old had to go in the backpack for lots of the way up but managed most of the walk back down.

We are from the U.K. so it was the first time we had seen cacti growing wild! Kids had fun collecting quartz crystals all the way, lots to find.

I’d recommend wearing socks and hiking shoes / boots as it’s quite loose on the way down plus the cactus are everywhere. There’s also a warning for rattlesnakes.

I guess you could climb any way up it you liked but if you want to the trail: drive past the rock heading north on highway 41. You’ll see a dirt track on your lhs which is marked on Google as beaverhead rock road. Take the track and follow it hugging the rock, go past a clearing with an old billboard in it. Carry on down the road a bit further until you see a pull off on you rhs. We parked there and the trail starts 25m or so further down the road on the rhs. It winds up and around the rock on a fairly gradual ascent. We took a steeper trail back on the way down which went past a cave and was much faster.

Climb to the top. There's no marked trail, but just use common sense and you will arrive. It's a beautiful hike, lots of animals, and seldom used by anybody else. We live here, and do it whenever we can if we are going by and have the time. It doesn't take super long, maybe 45 minutes RT? The easiest way is from the parking lot where the road quits, going around the back. But you can also just park near the base of it, right after leaving the highway – there's a steeper trail up there that works, too.

It is relatively unchanged since Lewis and Clark described it, inspite of attempts to do so

We were visiting ghost towns and driving from Bannock to Virginia City and came across Beaverhead Rock State park on Rt. 41. We didn't take the dirt road just north of the rock to its base, but it was impressive from the road and the historical marker was very informative and worth a stop. You can see how this was used as a landmark for those early settlers coming into this area.
