This place is a hidden gem! I was staying nearby on a road trip and, as a lover of antiques and books, had to stop by to check the place out. My partner and I bought a few books, but we both regretted not combing the shelves more thoroughly and went back the next morning!

Amazing book store with a lot of small rooms to explore. We grabbed a quick latte before browsing the stacks. Very cute!

This place is AMAZING! So many books, there are literal towers of books. The second level is a Sherlock Holmes mystery dinner theatre that you can walk around and check out when not in use!!

This is a great old fashioned bookstore. A lot of character to it. It used to be bigger but now it's condensed down to the first floor but it still has a nice selection. At the upper floor does Sherlock Holmes type who done it? Mystery plays and is set up like a town from that time. Very neat to walk through and look at things. Always come away with some fun books, records. There's also a nice little coffee bar in there if you want to take some time and relax or do some study.

Must see. This isn't the bookstore to visit if you're just searching for the latest best seller or newsstand rag. This is a place you go to experience "being in a bookstore," and all the wondrous and whimsical accouterments are in place: slow creaking floor boards, entire pillars made of books stretching from floor to ceiling, cases filled with fossils and minerals (spell components?), cozy chairs and settees on threadbare rugs, and all of the familiar volumes you remember from your grandfather's bookshelves (old friends and familiar faces). You will be transported to another time; although, I think they have a coffee bar, wifi and charging spots if you're into that. Plan on spending a while exploring all the nooks and crannies.

If you haven't been, GO! Check the website and get yourself some tickets to a mystery tea or a play. I can say with slight bias that the actors are stellar (married to one) and the atmosphere is really fun! There is a coffee bar on the first floor. There they also have a vast collection of books, new, old, and rare, as well as other media in the back like VHS and records. The second floor is built to look like Baker Street complete with real mini-shops where you can purchase tea, candles, hats and clothing items, and other things with classic Victorian store fronts. The third story of the building is an antique shop full of curious items and furniture. One of Amador's hidden gems!

This place is amazing ! Every book you could ever want is there , on every topic imaginable. It's a very "old timey" atmosphere, which just adds to its grandeur. And, they have a small section of rocks, fossils and gems. I love it

I have lived in 6 states all across the US and this place is HANDS DOWN the most awesome bookstore I have ever been to. The store itself is amazing and with a design and decor that's unique and welcoming. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable. I am usually looking for something obscure and they always know something about it and seem to know what books are in the store. Which is mind blowing because they have tens of thousands of books. Old books that I'm quite sure you would not find in any other bookstore. A lot of local history and they also carry DVD and video games. This place is truly the hidden gem of Amador County and book lovers who are visiting need to put Hein & Co. at the top of their places to see list.

There's a cool sense of timelessness in here that will be very attractive for the contemplative shopper.

My friends and I stopped into this bookstore before leaving back home to L.A.
We loved this place! Great art pieces, great relics, huuuuuge selection of literature to choose from, ranging from children's books to military history to financial planning, poetry, art, etc. And there's a cool spiral book tower in there! Neat-o!

I found my selection in this carefully curated sections of this bookstore, and there were definitely many many more things that caught my eye. Had to stop myself from indulging, or else I would have been there for hours! My friends and I left with some select treasures that we currently cherish- a definite highlight of our trip!

omg as a bibliophile in a technophile world, i was in heaven. . . amazing, extraordinary selection of old and rare books on every subject in the world. it SMELLS like old books( in a good way -other bibliophiles know what i mean), and that scent triggers intense joy for me. prices completely reasonable as well. the man at counter couldnt or wouldnt smile and i was FUNNY, lemme tell you . but , that didnt detract from the experience at all. if youre looking for the latest best seller, look elsewhere. if youre looking for fantastic book you remember from your youth and some you didnt fven KNOW existed.. get thee to this dying breed of a bookstore posthaste!!! i mean it . . go there . you WON'T be sorry

A hidden gem! Books are fabulous, vintage from all over the world, cozy where you can sit and enjoy. Be sure to visit the "theater" upstairs and chat with the amazing staff who love to share their knowledge, also check out all the amazing Vintage and antiques displays which are for sale 🎉

Great place to find all kinds of books, steampunk items and they have a Sherlock Holmes exhibit, for anyone who wants to take a stroll back in time.

An espresso bar and the nicest cat. I found books here I couldn't find anywhere else. A children's book on prehistoric tools, with actual plastic replicas, yes😃, I found that here. I hope they open the coffee place back up. More people need to visit Main street Jackson with their casino cash.

Beautiful bookstore, and if you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes, the 221b Baker Street setup upstairs is not to miss! They've done a great job and it's been a blast checking in on the progress of the fake storefronts every couple of months.

Great fun. Baskerville was a great spoof with lots of action and an amazing cast of "characters". Highly recommend 221 Baker Street for anyone who enjoys a good SHERLOCK HOLMES mystery. Make your reservations well in advance this theatre only accommodates 52 people.
