Hanford House

Truly 5 stars all-around. It feels like you're staying at an old friend's place with lush upgrades and a down home feel. Ideally situated within 5 min walk of everything in Sutter Creek and at least 5 tasting rooms. Great romantic getaway spot.

The staff is AMAZING here! They went out of their way a few times to make sure everything about my accommodation was excellent. I would highly recommend staying here if you’re thinking about it.

This is the first time that we stayed there since the remodel, so it's been a few years. Everything was perfect, except for one. The bathroom has a concrete floor with a very slippery and shiny surface. Some texture on the floor would be nice, since I slipped coming out of the shower. Ironically I was coming out of the shower to get the cloth mat to put down. Doh.

We enjoyed our stay and the breakfast was wonderful! We stayed in a cottage room and although there was a small coffee pot in the room it would've been nice to have the option to order more coffee with breakfast. The coffee provided in the room was ok but the coffee in the lobby area was much better. Not a big inconvenience, we just enjoy having good coffee (and a lot of it) first thing in the morning 😁.

Nice and quiet with comfortable beds and heated bathroom floors for those late night excursions.

Nice, quaint hotel with good sized rooms. We got a room with a balcony - worth it when the weather is nice. We were warmly greeted with a smile and glass of wine. They provided warm scones and breakfast to the rooms every morning. The bathroom had heated floors for those cold mornings and a night light to help you find your way in the middle of the night. Steps away from the shops on main street in Sutter Creek, very convenient. The staff was friendly and helpful - gave some good recommendations on things to do and places to eat. My only "gripe" was the breakfast delivery times were "late" at 8:30a, but that's because we're up early. But with no regular breakfast places in town open before 9a, I was happy to be fed with the scones and delicious, fresh breakfast they offered. Would definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area.

Beautifully appointed and comfortable renovated rooms. Fresh, warm scones at your door by 7am. Hot coffee and tea conveniently available on the ground & 2nd floor. Breakfast at the door by 9:30 am. In room temperature control, gas wall fireplace, small balcony, and clean. Front door locks at 7 pm and each room has a key. Owners have the feeling of family or close friends.

Love the small historic town of Sutter Creek that opens mid-morning and closes by 8 pm. Will always be our go to special place for a get away.

I’ve stayed at the Hanford House twice (coming back intentionally to stay at the Hanford House). Am fortunate to get to travel quite a bit and would say that this is in the top of my all time favorite places. It’s wonderfully appointed, a touch of modern and industrial, clean, inviting, friendly and many nice touches. Great value. Breakfast and morning scones at our door are decadent. Will definitely be back to stay here and enjoy Sutter Creek and all the gold country historical towns. Perfect get away!

Came here for our anniversary and we were more than pleased. The scones in the morning are amazing and the breakfast at their in house restaurant is fantastic too. The service is very friendly and the inn is a 10 second walk from Main Street shops, wine tasting, and good food. We will definitely be back!

This is our second time staying here. We love the rooms and the beds. The scones and coffee in the morning are great as are the wine tasting and fresh cookies in the evening.

The breakfasts at Element are wonderful. This is a huge selling point for Hanford House.

Overall we love the welcoming and modem feel of the place and look forward to returning in the future.

Stayed in Sutter Creek this past weekend, as we were attending a wedding up the road in Plymouth. So happy we were able to book a room at Hanford House! It was the perfect mix of modern and quaint. So so clean, and the room and B&B had everything we needed during our stay. As everybody else mentions, the scones in the morning were the perfect way to start off the day. During COVID, they are also including breakfast, and all the options were very good. Obviously Sutter Creek isn't too large, so HH is in walking distance to any place you would want to visit in town. Enjoy!

Awesome place! Minus informing them that I have a Tesla and I wanted to use their charging spots but they had two gas cars parked in those spots. So Tesla owners be aware that they may not be available. The room was perfect and great place to celebrate an Engagement!

This is my all time favorite place to stay! The rooms are impecible. The people are always so friendly. We've stayed in several rooms and the standards of cleanliness combined with the comforts and conveniences are always consistent. Element restaurant never fails to meet delicious culinary expectations.

Cool little place!! Fresh baked hot scones delivered to our door before breakfast... Yes Please!!! ( Best scones we have ever had) friendly staff amazing breakfast in Element. Very quiet and relaxing. Definitely would return for sure.

Best place to stay in this area in my entire life. We stayed in their bungalow and they allowed us to bring our kitty (it is difficult to find places that accept kittys) and it was absolutely beautiful and located at such a great spot near all the shops! I stayed with my grandma and we had a wonderful time. I will definitely stay here again sometime. :)

Such great attention to detail, great breakfasts, and amiable staff. Less expensive than those inns on yhe "main drag," but just as convenient...and the cottages were charming. We stay in the main building, and thought it was really special. The cottages were just that much more!

Staff were very friendly and helpful, good breakfast, comfortable bed, and peaceful atmosphere. Felt like staying at a friend's home, only you get the best room in the house. Will definitely stay again.

It was amazing. This was our 3rd visit. We, group of 12, go to Behind the Cellar Door every year and so happy we found Hanford House. The rooms are wonderful, breakfast at Element is amazing, and Paul takes very good care of us. Coffee out at 7 each morning, warm scones at our door by 7:30, and warm cookies every afternoon. We've already booked next year. Thank you Hanford House.

A delightful place to stay. The staff is very accommodating and our cottage was luxurious. We enjoyed everything from the fresh scones and coffee in bed to the jacuzzi. We will be back!

This is me and my wife's second time here, and we absolutely love it. The front desk is helpful and friendly, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the lobby when we arrived, with a complimentary wine hour starting at 5:00 for the guests; we had a wonderful sauvignon blanc. The building itself was completely and excellently redone in 2013. It's a clean, modern, elegant aesthetic, with touches of the area's old rustic history.

Room: Both times, we've stayed in Cottage Suite 4, which is seriously nice. The main area has a king bed, gas fireplace, large flat screen TV, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker. The bathroom is enormous: clawfoot tub, separate toilet area, very large separate walk-in shower, and heated floors. Outside is a private deck with 2-person hot tub, lounge chairs, and a patio table set with umbrella. Turn out the lights, settle into the hot tub, and look up at the night sky for a while. It's a perfectly decadent little couple's retreat.

Food: For starters, fresh baked scones are delivered to your door each morning - today was blueberry lemon, delicious! The breakfast portion of this bed & breakfast is handled by the attached restaurant, Element. The food is utterly delightful; it's among one of the best restaurants we've ever experienced. It's a small menu, updated versions of classic breakfast fare, noticeably fresh. Everything we've had is perfectly prepared. Eggs come from chickens raised in the back coop, and walking to breakfast from our room this morning I saw one of the staff trimming fresh herbs from the garden.

I can't imagine that there a better bed & breakfast anywhere in Amador County, you just have to come try it.
