Medical Center For Birds

We've been taking our chickens here and nowhere else for over 6 years. The first time we visited with an ill chicken, I was worried that our chicken wouldn't be seen as an equal patient, and would be seen merely as livestock. It ended up being the complete opposite. Each one of our chickens has always been treated like any other pet, with love, respect and compassion by everyone: from Gail and the other ladies working reception, to the vet techs, to the doctors. We've brought our hens in for various reasons: treatment for illness, compassionate send-offs over the rainbow bridge, and necropsies. Each time, we've always felt confident that our hens were getting the best possible care.

I can see why people come from all over to this wonderful place. I felt welcomed from start to finish. Major kudos to the front desk for demonstrating great customer service and care. The ladies in the front knew I came from SF and offered me coffee and even called me to come inside a little bit earlier than my appt. My lil Johnny came in for a possible infection and the vet and nurse who did the examination was so kind,gentle and very through.I didn't feel like I was getting cheated or forced to do tests on my bird. I was happy that he got to go home with medicine and we will back a week from now. And yes the price for the visit is a bit of a sticker shock. However i'll determine by the next visit if the price is reasonable but in the meantime I feel that this facility is the best in the bay area and worth the drive.

all i can say is OUTSTANDING! first of all, they got me in for an appointment quickly! second thing, is there is passion. i was blessed to have Vanessa as our vet for our sick rooster Snowflake❄! she was so gentle and compassionate! they did what they could to make my rooster comfortable and possibly better which wasn’t the odds. Vanessa was so gentle during the process of putting down my rooster. She made me comfortable and feel 100% that i made the right decision. my rooster went peacefully and they did whatever they could. thank you from the bottom of my heart Vanessa for treating my bird and I with so much respect and love. Vanessa was so understanding and not invasive when it comes to care. she really takes into consideration the state of the animal. i

My 20-year-old green cheek conure developed cancer (a cloacal carcinoma) and I brought her into this medical center for treatment. She received two months of chemo (2 doses every three weeks) and in the third month, she went in for surgery. Two months later, she has no remergence of cancerous or cystic tissue. It cost me 3000$ to get her full treatment and, despite the stress for me and both of my birds, every dollar was worth it. My green cheek may now happily live to 30 years old, because of Dr Baden and Dr Speer. Dr Baden administered chemo to her and both doctors partook in her surgery. My tiny, snuggly, sassy dragon-bird means so much to me and I'll forever be grateful to the doctors here who saved her. Every day counts.

[Update] Over a year later, my green cheek has no signs of relapse. The site of her previous tumor is healthy, no excessive scarring and no abnormal tissue. I still think about how, without Dr. Baden and Speer, my bird would not be with me today. They saved her and gave her the chance to feel years more of love, play, and head-scratches.

The level of service here is unparalleled.
I found an abandoned green cheek over 3 years ago. Recently she became very I'll.
After doing some research online, I knew MCB was the place to take her. From the beginning of her stay, to the end of her stay, my bird received the best care possible. She was in ICU over the Thanksgiving holiday. Eventhough they were closed, someone went in to check on her. I was sent updates via text, including pictures. I was called with regular updates also. Someone even drew a portrait of her. I wholeheartedly believe they saved my bird's life and I'm eternally grateful. Thank you to the doctors, the techs and anyone else who was involved in her care. I hope she never needs care again, but if she does, I know where to bring her.

the doctors of this medical center are so so so professional ! this is not an expression of emotion,but they have gained a lot of international academic honor,you can google them before make an apointment,it will makes u feel incredible .
How about their sevice? a real professional scholar of ornithology always beyonds ur imagination.
And those people are all friendly and patient,honest and polite.

The absolute best bird vets in California. Cannot say enough about how lovely the entire staff is. I've been coming here for over 10 years for my birds and have always received the most exemplary service. The staff here are kind, knowledgeable, strong communicators and have always provided the best care to my birds

I love how much they care and really give the birds a good vet experience. Nothing is forced but its a playful and good time for the bird & owner! I got my Scarlet Macaw girl microchipped and this is the clinic I would go to any time she has health issues. I also got some valuable advice regarding to behavioral training & health supervision. Highly recommended!

They are the best for bird care and worth the drive if out of their area.

Medical Center for Birds is a place where you can be sure that your bird will be well cared for. I took my sick parakeet there recently and the staff was incredible. Unfortunately, due to my bird's condition she had to be put down but the doctor treated me so compassionately. They offer a free autopsy if desired and they will treat the remains or allow you to take your baby back home for you to handle in the way you see fit. I drove to Oakley from Stockton and would do it over again in a heartbeat. The doctor called me to report the findings of the autopsy. She was still so sweet, and patient and compassionate. They explained everything with details, care and compassion.

I drive 3 hours to take my bird here. I've had multiple doctors and they have all been outstanding in information and empathy. When they had to board my cockatoo they spent time with him out of the cage and even sent me videos. I will only use this vet and they are 100% worth the drive.

This is definitely the best place to take your bird. They are very professional and knowledgeable. I took my Sun Conure and the doctor was very patient in answering all my questions, they also took good care of him. I am very glad to have found this clinic, they are definitely the best.

I have total confidence in the staff and in particular Dr. Speer. They are very professional, friendly, informative, non-judgmental (yes, I can do better with my bird's diet) and although I live far from the hospital, it was, and is, totally worth the trip. If your bird needs special care this is definitely the place to go.

Wonderful staff! My old greenwing macaw received excellent care from the staff. The vets have incredible knowledge about the day-to-day workings of birds, and are happy to give advice. Despite covid, they were able to make an appointment for me because I was so worried about my bird. They had excellent quarantine procedures in place for the safety of the clients and staff. I drove 2 hours to go to this center and it was worth it - I couldn't have picked a better place to take my macaw.

This is a wonderful and caring group of people. They examined my bird thoroughly, took the time to explain what was happening, and apply the treatments that made sense. They also taught me several important things about caring for my birds. I'm very glad to have had their help.

Wonderful staff and great Doctors. Linda is always so helpful getting us same day appointments even when they are booked. Dr. Speer is the best, he's saved our Umbrella several times. I highly recommend this bird hospital.

The Birds Medical Center in Oakley, Ca. Is highly recommended by me and all bird’s lovers! One of my birds was sick and I the Vet. Doctor check her. With some medication and exam. My bird become healthy and normal again. I will used this Medical Center for Birds for future visits!

The entire staff at Medical Center for birds is truly dedicated to health and well being of your bird! It is well worth the drive from the immediate SF Bay Area and beyond! They have helped my cockatoo more than once for which I am very grateful! A five star rated avian veteranian staff!
