Winston Creek Campground

We really enjoyed our stay at Winston Creek. There were some potholes throughout the loop but they weren't too bad. No hookups and the bathrooms were a little rough (bring your own toilet paper just in case), but it was very quiet and enjoyable. Sites were spaced out nicely so it felt pretty secluded. We stayed in site 7 and our 21 ft hybrid trailer fit just fine. We walked around the campground and really would have enjoyed any of the sites. For a travel trailer, I think sites 1, 3 and 5 would have been our least favorite for backing in but all would have been completely doable. This is a DNR campground so no host onsite - bring your own firewood. From site 1 and group site 2 we found a couple different trails to the creek with a little bank for hanging out but not sure there were any other access points to be on the water (we had a trail from our site and could see the water but there wasn't a place to actually get down to it). We will definitely be back.

This is a hidden gem for sure, you have to call and reserve the site you want ahead of time (no same day, because there is no host on site). You just open the gate and go to your assigned spot. And it looks like all sites have river access, but here’s a little tip: #4, 5 & 6 had the best water access by far. And when spot #10 reopens that would be probably be my personal favorite…. ;-)

Reservation only I believe. Kind of a less known place so it's not usually overpacked. My family has gone there every year for 4 or 5 years. Most sites have creek access. I recommend site 5. Shaded all day and nice creek area

We camped here 3 days, #7, by the creek on May 12-14 , 2016; no reservation necessary; wood stacked neatly by the firepit with grate. VERY CLEAN; clean outhouses - plenty of clean, wrapped TP; clean water pump area, good water. Very quiet - we were the only campers. All campsites were 'groomed' clean by work crew - branches and deadwood cleared; no garbage, broken glass, beer cans, bottle caps. A great camping location, for hiking up the Goat Creak Trail.

I used to go camping here as a child. I had so much fun catching and cooking the crawdads from the creek. I fished it relentlessly and never caught a thing also. The sites are private. It was closed down and reopened to reservations only. Google "winston creek campground DNR" to get the reservation information. The gate is closed so you cant just show up.
I parked at the gate once and walked down and met what I think to be a permanent resident. He was super fake friendly to me and it seemed he did not want me there. He gave me a number to call if I wanted to make reservations.
I have never gone through the reservation process so I don't know how problematic it will be.

Just went out to this place recently I'm 38 now haven't been their since I was 8 parents took me camping here every year but I almost died the last time I had went their and my parents just never took us back still the same as I remember and can't wait to start taking my kids and wife and keep the tradition going I think all of us that go should make it nicer make the trails to the creek better and help upkeep the place

I love Winston creek I have gone there for many years since the 70s. today would have been brother dogs 14th birthday but very unfortunately Roy came to the end of our time together a few months ago and today 2-14-2021 im going to return the remains of brother dog to mother earth winston creek is my happy place bring your kids and there bicycles and don't forget to watch out for bigfoot

Wonderful little Campground! Has a lake with showers, playground for the kids, at the campsite it has Grill, fire pit, picnic table and full bathroom with showers! Great place to camp! Make reservations so you have a place!

Great Little campground with nice creek access good crawdads to catch. Only number is the tweeker homeless sometimes are in the campground..

Great little campground there are 4 outhouses and a water pump the creek is beautiful and its got lots of woods to walk around in

Lot of history 30+year's met some of the most down to earth and outgoing people from all upbringings

Overall great place. Pretty and private. Toilets are the only major problem.
