I got a haircut from Kelly Bird and it completely transformed my look and the way I treat my hair in the best way possible. She was extremely helpful with styling and product tips as well as just general hair care tips. I got my cut about a month ago and my grow out is still looking great. I cannot recommend this salon and specifically Kelly enough.

MK is fantastic and gave my outdated style a fresh new look! I just moved here 3 months ago and am happy to have already found my salon. The space is simple, yet stylish with great tunes, relaxed atmosphere and cool vibes all around!

This is the best salon in Bellingham. All the hair stylists here are incredibly talented, insightful, and caring. Kelly, Deirdre, and MK are masters of their craft and us here in little old Bellingham should feel so lucky to have artists of their caliber here for us. Topaz forever.

So great! The salon is really cute, and Deirdre is amazing. I had a great experience; my curly hair has never looked better, and Deirdre really takes the time to understand what you want out of your appointment. I also really appreciate the option to request a silent appointment! Sometimes you just need a little extra quiet time, and it's thoughtful they offer that. I will definitely be back!

I love everything about Kelly & Topaz! I arrived under the heavy blanket of 3.5 years of grow out. (Having sworn pre-pandemic I’d never have long hair again, but here I was with hair down to my belly.)

She asked what I wanted & had no interest in telling me what to do. She really listened & reviewed photos of what was my then all time favorite cut to understand where I wanted to end up. Plus, she understood, appreciated & accepted my desire to stay away from loads of products & stick with my herbal hair care protocol.

She heard me.

To begin, She braided the length to remove for donating. Then she expertly revealed my curls again.

The result: my new all-time favorite sassy, rinse ‘n wear, happy hair. She recreated my prior favorite, but put her own spin on it. And I love it more than my prior favorite.

Kelly really knows how to make those curls pop - even with graying hair like mine that can end up going frizzy, which isn’t the case with Kelly’s work!

The salon is low key, clean & comfy. They even donate hair scraps to clean up oil spills - who knew?!?

Everyone is friendly. Nobody is pushy.

Plus, I’m stoked Kelly’s a herbalist who customizes herbal hair products. The moisturizing styling cream sample she gave me is luscious!

I cannot say enough nice things about getting my hair cut by Deirdre! First of all, I know the prices look scary, but please, please, please, let me tell you about the value of why it’s higher than your “average” cut. Let me begin by asking how many times you’ve gone in with a photo of a haircut you wanted, showed it to the person, and that was the end of your intro to the human who will now give you what you hope is your new badass ‘do? And then it didn’t come out as you had hoped and you went home and cried?? That won’t happen to you if you book with Deirdre. She takes the time necessary to not only connect with you in a safe and welcoming way, she chats with you about your lifestyle, hair goals, hair expectations, etc. so that you can make sure that cut you have in mind actually works with your getting ready routine, your hair type, and who you are.
Then, when you’re getting cleansed with nontoxic cleanser, you will receive the most amazing energy healing session of your life which includes a brief consultation on aromatherapy and what your intention is for the session. Deirdre ensures that you are comfortable and feeling at ease by checking in and asking permission before placing hands on you, which I think is amazing. What I’ve mentioned so far should be enough warrant the price tag, but let me continue.
I have curly hair and have struggled with finding the right cut and style for years. I ended up getting a mullety little shag from another stylist in Seattle (I got tired of making the commute) and wanted to move into a more full shag. I cannot express how overjoyed I am by the cut she gave me. Deirdre’s cuts are designed to last for at least six months, if not a year, with some bang/crown trims to keep things fresh. I can tell you right now, that is most certainly the case. So, you’ll save money not having to get a cut every 2-3 months. Additionally, I am able to do very minimal work with my hair both on wash day and on refresh days. This is also due in part to making the switch to Hairstory products. I will say that I was struggling with it at first and not only did Deirdre show me how to use the products extensively when styling my hair, but she was gracious and kind enough to let me keep asking questions days and weeks after my appointment.
This salon is what dreams are made of: no chemcials, sustainable, no judgement, and great care for the environment, the people who come in, and the people who work there. They also have a wonderful selection of products as well, so you don’t have to order online if you don’t want to.
Plus, I get tons of compliments on my hair! And, Deirdre is a sweet, funny, and vibrant human and I’m so happy to have met her!

Deirdre is an amazing artist and every time I leave I feel like my hair reflects exactly who I am! I always feel heard and understood and I cannot recommend having Deirdre work the magic on your own hair enough. Bonus points for the excellent banter 👌 best I’ve ever felt after getting my hair cut.

I booked an appointment with Jaxx three or four days in advance- I’m the kind of person that when I decide I need/want a haircut-I want it then and can’t wait. That usually doesn’t work for a salon like this so I was pleased to get into a highly rated salon at short notice. Don’t let “apprentice stylist” deter you from booking with Jaxx as they are far exceeding that title. I came in with no vision- other than needing dead weight chopped off for a fresh post equinox- despite no vision Jaxx and I found it together. They were very thorough as we went over photos, expectations, how my hair could or would lay, what I desired in length and look, etc. This thoroughness carried through our appointment together as they explained products, the salon, the final look and of course our personal chit chat. I don’t style or put product in my hair and Jaxx was amazing at giving me a realistic “unstyled style” at the end of my cut. Every time I’ve left a salon in the past I’ve felt like a million bucks but know that will never be recreated again due to lack of expertise, products, equipment, etc but today I walked out feeling confident in my own hair, knowing I could achieve this same look time and time again because of the attention Jaxx gave to my hair and hair personality. Jaxx is kind, thorough, patient, and personable. I will definitely be making them my go to stylist in town to keep up with my hair finally, and I’ll recommend them to anyone who asks! Thank you.

Deirdre has cut and colored my hair a couple of times now, and I'm always in love with the results. She goes out of her way to understand your personal hair goals and the amount of maintenance you want to put into a new hairstyle (as someone who realistically only spends 5-10 minutes on my hair in the morning, this is very helpful). I appreciated how many times she checked in with me throughout the process, especially when I was doing something new or drastic (bangs!). I've happily recommended friends her way.

Deirdre kicks so much butt! Everything about our appointment made me feel comfortable and confident. They gave me recommendations for products to use and informed me on how to use the products I already own to optimize my hair's health. The haircut itself is BOMB. My hair grows in very strange directions so any grow-out process is usually a pain for me but I'm about two weeks out from my appointment and I'm still so happy with how effortless it looks! Deirdre really listened to all my hair concerns and it shows.

After envying a friend's haircuts and always asking her who she goes to, I was introduced to Dierdre at Topaz. After following her on Instagram and seeing her amazing work I finally went for my first appointment and I was not disappointed! She took the time to consult me on what I was looking for and then I let the artist go to work. I felt so good about my haircut and it looks so great! She styled it and gave me a look that I've been happy with ever since and have already made my next appointment in a month, for a freshen up. She is very kind and fun to talk to, if that's your thing and I highly recommend seeing her for a fresh fun look!

I have long hair and am pretty low maintenance on styling. I came in for a cut with Jen, and asked her to make my long hair manageable. She did an amazing job. I was so impressed with how she went to work to take the weight out of my heavy mop and trim my bangs so they will grow out well. I now step out of the shower, let it air dry and it looks great. I am definitely going back to Jen again!

Deirdre was so wonderful! I’m only starting to understand how to style and take care of my curly hair and she was so helpful with recommendations for products and style techniques. I love Topaz. I'm a long time client of Kelly Bird's and followed her to her beautiful new salon. After years of going to see Kelly, I've consistently been completely happy with my hair, even from the first appointment. She really takes the time to listen to what you want and makes it happen- and quickly! Kelly is also really kind, I never feel shamed, even when I trim my own bangs poorly or use damaging product. She's super knowledgeable as well and uses really cool, natural products, which I really appreciate. I've referred many people who all love their hair after and are regular clients. Simply put, Kelly is awesome.

Topaz was recommended by my stylist as a good option for low-chemical colour. I was able to get an appointment with Jen within a week -- booking online was simple and pricing was reasonable. I'm always nervous about the outcome with colourists the first time around, but Jen did a fantastic job at a very natural-looking, sun-kissed balayage. The salon is simple and quiet and Jen was personable and obviously has lots of experience. Highly recommend!

Ten out of ten amazing experience! Deirdre is so talented and intuitive and so good at making you feel comfortable. My haircut is absolutely perfect. Here is a quote from my ex when he saw the new ‘do:
