I absolutely love this trail. It's very well maintained. I walk there about 10 times a year or more. Their are areas where you really get a good workout but not for long. Stops to do and sit on benches . Nature all around. Birds , and I am sure of wildlife. So be careful.
There's a lookout area to sit at a table to admire Ferndale.
And other area to sit by a pond. It's just a very nice trail.
Enjoy & please respect it and others.

A fairytale trail with options for a short walk to a rigorous hike. Dogs live this trail.

Russ Park is a hidden gem in Ferndale! It's so big I haven't experienced all of it yet! I can't wait for the rain to stop. It's probably a mud fest right now 😕
The dog loves it! Nice scenery and fantastic views! It's a bit steep, and lots of tree roots growing into the trail can be a tripping hazard. Also, be aware that there are areas with ABSOLUTELY NO CELL SERVICE, over towards the Eugene Street side, so if you do get into trouble, you might not be able to call for help. Keep that in mind if solo hiking.

Spectacular hike, rustic path up the hill, pond at the top, and forest cliff ravine views. Fun well mapped path, some great views of Ferndale. Cell service available. Cool variety of fungi along the trail. Benches and picnic tables along the path.

Great set of trails with good views from the look outs on clear days. The northern facing slope and cool damp ocean air keeps the forest damp with lots of cool plants, birds, and fungi to be observed.

Happy to find this lovely trail when we were visiting the area with our dog. The National and State redwood parks in the area don't allow dogs (even leashed) on trails so great to stretch our legs here. Beautiful stika spruce forest.

This place is enchanting, with mushrooms, a swamp and a cool staircase about halfway through, my son and I love this trail near Ferndale. There are several loops to choose from, we take the loop that is under two miles. In December it stays pretty wet so the conditions are just right for spotting mushrooms and there are several overlooks of the town of Ferndale. It's worth visiting!

Beautiful easy hike. It’s a light uphill start and then easy down hill. We did the 2.1 mile loop. It was great afternoon hike and right outside of downtown Ferndale

I came here because of a guy talking about it on a plane to ACV. It's like a more quiet and self-reflective version of Redwood Park in Arcata. I saw a total of two hikers there during my 3-hour hike midday on a Monday. Went up Lytel Ridge (the most birds) to the Bunker Hill lookout. I had turkey vultures fly about thirty feet from my face if I was quiet. Then I cut down to Zipporah's Pond, which is more of a swamp, and down the Ferndale viewing trail. There's a picnic table there if you wanted to stop and snack. I hesitated to post this just because I wanted to keep the population visiting down, haha.

Nice little park. Very vertical, I didn't go all the way to the top. I took the Main Trail up as far as Zipporah Pond and then picked up the Village Trail which took me down to Ferndale Cemetery. I'll wear lighter weight clothes next time!

A beautiful mossy, green forest (redwood, spruce, fir, etc.). there are a few different loop lengths to choose from. It's a bit steep here and there, but not bad. There's a little pond at the top of the main loop.

Great hikes. I have gotten 4 miles easily by going out one way and back another. Their are several routes to take. Yes you can go up hill both ways.....LOL. Very beautiful scenery and quiet.... Not much for noise unless the fire whistle goes off or a low flying rare plane goes over head.
Some of the trails are kept way too tight for me in the width department. They seem to crowd you in some locations. I am used to hiking trail with space to pass and shoulder room wich these trails lack in places. A total width of 5' to 7' would be awesome and time consuming to achieve.

I hiked this wonderful trail with my pup and started out nor knowing really what was ahead and I really enjoyed myself. And so did my pup. We went towards the left and went up to the lookout and back down.
Really a great workout and then back to the parking lot.

Secluded hiking trail. I felt like the only person on the planet. It was a little steep in places but very easy to navigate for all ages.
