The Sand Bar Tavern

Definitely stop here! This place is a true PNW gem. I always drove by this place while out hiking near Index and thought it looked really interesting. I finally stopped today and I was not disappointed. Truly a very friendly and hospitable atmosphere. I met adventurers, travelers, and locals and everyone got along like old friends. A very comfortable and inviting place!

Have driven past this place for years and finally stopped in after a hike and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the owner and enjoying a beer and homemade food. Love the laid back, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend stopping here, especially if you need a rest from Highway 2!

A must visit tavern in Gold Bar/Index! Came for the Toby Keith memorial karaoke, stayed for the awesome staff. Everyone inside this magical place was beyond friendly and showed tremendous hospitality to our group. The free bar snacks were a sweet bonus!

Stopped for a leg stretch & walked into a party for sure. Friendly, great service, just like your own small home town. We did not eat, nice frosty mugs of rootbeer & beer for my partner. Great service. Nice outdoor fireplace in front.

Man! Went there last year and have such fond memories. Owner is down to Earth! Atmosphere is cool AF. Worth the drive and definitely worth the stop if just passing by.

This place is the absolute best that small town bars have to offer. The owners are lovely, the place has such great decor, and the beer wine and spirits selection was surprising. They even have karaoke, cribbage, and live music! You absolutely should stop in next time you're in the area.

Such a great tavern. Stopped by after a hike and instantly felt like home. Great beer and cider selection and they had self-serve chili dogs, corn dogs and an amazing homemade seafood chowder. Definitely coming back.

GO TO THIS BAR!!! Came with friends on a Saturday while we were staying in Index for a ski trip. Staff/locals were incredibly friendly and made us feel at home right away. Vibes were immaculate. Beer, chili (they even had veggie chili) and karaoke to your heart's content. I can't think of a better establishment

Such a cool hole in the wall, Hwy bar. Was most definitely a pleasure to have stopped there and have a beer 🍺 . Veteran owned and operated establishment. Got to meet the owner and share some fun stories and memories. Will definitely be back and looking forward to it.

My friends and I were staying at a cabin the the area and saw the Sand Bar has karaoke on Saturdays. We loved the theme, everyone was so welcoming, and we had fun singing karaoke all night. If you are in town or passing through, we recommend a visit!

Fun bar, has a cool beach theme with lots of cool objects inside, karaoke on Saturdays ! Stop by after a long hike and enjoy a beer from the many to chose from.

The Sand Bar is a great place to hang out and relax. The owners are open and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. This last visit I sat outside and soaked up the sun and the awesome views of partially snow covered mountains. They sell beer and wine and usually have complimentary food. A great place to stop at on the way home from Eastern Washington or just to get out of town for a little relaxing drinks.

Stopped for a beer. Owners are very friendly and gave us the name of a bar to checkout in Skykomish. We'll be stopping here again.

Thank you for helping during the Boltcreek fire. You stayed open as long as you could for the community. You risked everything for our community, and when they needed somewhere to pull over to gather their directions, you didnt make anyone leave you were there to help. Thank you for your service during the chaos.

What a great place to stop on the road to or from the Mountains. When we saw it we just had to stop! It's a comfortable little place with cool refreshments, friendly conversation, and beautiful views. The decor is Funky Sand and Sea. We were so glad that we stopped. The atmosphere just makes you want to grin! We hear that they have Friday Open Mike nights now. Can't wait to go back!

If you find yourself on highway 2 and you need somewhere to wet your whistle, this place is a gem. We popped in there last weekend and ended up spending our Saturday evening there for dinner and karaoke. The prices are absolutely incredible and Devon and Andrea are two wonderful people that make sure everyone in attendance is enjoying their time to the fullest.

They over heard us talking about how we forgot our sleeping bags for camping and even though we were complete strangers they offered us blankets and pillows and saved the day! Great people and I will definitely be a frequent customer this upcoming ski season on my way to Steven’s Pass.

Long story short…. Pop on in there!!! Great place!

Had an enjoyable time here! Positive vibe, welcoming, and excellent customer service. A good place to grab a drink and get cheap eats that'll fill you up! This is not a fancy restaurant. It's a place to enjoy and relax first, drinks second, and food that complements the drinking.

The host welcomed us with a smile, paid attention to our group of four, and took the time to make us feel comfortable. Afterwards, he checked back on our group multiple times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Even the locals came by to say hi to us. We felt very welcomed at the Tavern. We were invited to sing Karaoke, but we passed on the offer. The locals were all singing their hearts out.

This is a BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED tavern! The owners are welcoming and friendly, the beer is good and cold, and the nibbles are satisfying. I love their karaoke nights on Saturday - you can let yourself loose and have a lot of fun with a smaller crowd. It's worth it to stop by and have a beverage (beer, wine, fizzies, no hard alcohol) JUST TO SEE THE BATHROOMS! The nautical decor is great in the mountains. Also, there's an outdoor fire pit with the most beautiful view of Mt. Index. I highly recommend this place, whether you're a local, a climber taking advantage of the nearby routes, a skier heading to Steven's Pass Ski Resort, or just a traveler going through the pass - it's always a magical experience and you'll meet the greatest people. Five stars in my book!
