Index Community Church

Located in the tiny historic town of Index, facing north, is Index Church, a small steadfast sanctuary nestled among a raw fastness of mountains tall and severe in winter, surprisingly warm and inviting in summer. The winter air is glacial, pure. Spiritual ice bridges swoop across “the great falling away” with stern but entirely misbegotten railings of “Ahab” and “Jezebel.” The pastor of Index Church is a fearless white bearded saint with the patience of Job, the tenacity of a Douglas Squirrel, and the wisdom of Elrond. Index Church welcomes anyone with a helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith, sword of the spirit, feet shod with the gospel…but takes all comers. Drive beneath steep glistening rock faced walls dripping with water of life on a ribbon of highway above a roaring Skykomish River to Bible study at 9am, church 10am each Sunday, Jesus lives here.
