I like visiting restaurants where you can see community happening. I was staying with a friend for the weekend and I was told this is where we have to go after church. The charm of the small town eatery is present before you even step through the door. I saw customers holding the door for one another, greeting one another, teasing as they entered the sanctuary after their church service on a Sunday afternoon. It was obvious people didn't just eat here, they interacted on a personal level. I generally skip the chains when traveling and this is why. The food was good, the prices were fair, the service was friendly, but I love seeing community on a deeper level. The waitresses knew their regulars, treated them more like family than customers but were quick to welcome an out of towner as well. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely be returning to Coal Oil Johnny's. If I could pack a restaurant up and take it with me I would, but then Pleasantville would be a little less pleasant. This place is a must for anyone that appreciates the spirit of a small town.

It has a Small Home Town Feel, where none is a stranger!
The ladies, or the waitresses are so easy going despite the "FUN" harassment from local's.
The atmosphere is relaxing and homey. They have fabulous area photos of Nature and the local wildlife, a variety of candies for the sweet tooth, and shirts. I was so amazed with the food and options they provided, and I was NOT disappointed. The portions are really filling and SO homemade tasting. With 5 DIFFERENT PIES AVAILABLE!
I will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area!

First time here. I always like to find the smaller local restaurants when stopping to eat. Small cozy restaurant. Was a little taken back when I looked at the prices on the menu. Took a bit to be waited on but I’m not going to complain about that, the poor woman was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Very friendly staff! The meal was very nice. Was able to substitute corned beef hash with my omelette instead of the toast and home fries. Don’t let the menu prices scare you by no means. Paid less than $10 for my meal with the accommodations. Will definitely stop here again when I’m in the area. Thank you for the wonderful visit to the area!

The food was really good and the prices were excellent. I had the turkey sandwich with fries and a piece of strawberry rhubarb pie. I brought my husband home a double cheeseburger with bacon. He ate it cold, but was so impressed he wants me to take him there immediately to taste it warm. Staff was really nice and great service. 👍

First time visited. Great food and great service. I was elated to find crab cakes on their menu. And, they were some of the best I've ever had. Baked potato with real bacon pieces. Pie was mediocre. Nevertheless, we will be back on a regular basis.

Great breakfast!! We do not go here often, only when in town, our hunting cabin is nearby. Best meals next to our homemade. Some even better. Get the pie.

Very nice family restaurant we stopped at for the first time on our way to the Clarion River for a family canoe trip. Three floors of seating so don't be discouraged if it looks crowded. You have to try the homemade breakfast sausage patties

Since moving to the area we have become Jonny's regulars, especially for weekend breakfast! The prices are fantastic and the food is delicious! True, if you are looking for a five star upscale restaurant experience with and off the wall menu and a snooty wait staff you may be disappointed....but if you are looking to have a great meal with friendly staff at a hometown restaurant then you're in luck. They are amazing.

As for some of the other reviews I've read just an FYI.....you do seat yourself, there's a sign right through the door that says so. Also I've NEVER waited long for someone to come and say hi and grab us drinks. They get quite busy at peak times but I've never had anything but prompt service with a friendly smile. It's really a great place. Try it if you haven't!
