This is a fun little place. Frequented by locals. It's a time capsule of what a restaurant was like 40 years ago.
A working phone booth. At the table, juke boxes that haven't had a new song added in 30 years.
The interior decor is amazing.
I highly recommend this place.

What a wonderful place to find. My waitress was so nice . The food was great and the atmosphere was fun. You are stepping back into time. Imagine yourself in the 1950s and the show Happy Days. Highly recommend Hillcrest Restaurant if you find yourself in Las Vegas,New Mexico.

This is an old school restaurant that serves American and Mexican dishes. My husband and I came here for lunch. I ordered the Salisbury steak and my husband ordered enchilada plate. We both enjoyed it. The serving is generous. It is worth the price we paid. It is reasonably priced, thus the five stars. The service is wonderful. Our server was attentive and nice and very friendly . I am also giving the atmosphere of the restaurant five stars. The restaurant has tables for couples, families, friends, and big groups. It is clean and comfortable to dine in. The restroom was also clean when we dined there.

Delicious! Just like mama made it! Service was terrific. Portions were perfect size, not too much, but could've used just a little more mashed taters. Only because I love my taters!

Nice older "Mom & Pop" restaurant highly recommended by the locals at the Tourist Info booth in town.
Had the Shrimp and Cod with fries and a salad. All fried, but was light as if it were baked -- not greasy. Tasted great. Waitress was attentive and efficient.
Highly recommend!

They are our go-to restaurant. Always clean, always kind. Update: Even during the covid crisis, the Hillcrest adapted and came through for the city. Comfortable outdoor seating is available. The indoor bathrooms have been remodeled! We are all so proud of Karen and Bill for going out of their way to provide great service! Thank you both!

The food was really good. Next time I hope to eat in, rather than takeout. The staff was super friendly and the whole place was so cute and quaint.

Worth taking a detour for this iconic place. It's like walking back in time, the only thing missing is the waitresses don't lick their pencil before they write down your older. Great food, fair prices. Get the green chile sauce - spicy and flavorful without being a burner.

We came here for dinner during our Route 66 road trip (detouring into Las Vegas). What a cool place--a real throwback to my childhood. The food was fine and the service friendly. Great retro place to experience dinner like your parent or grandparents once did.

Came down from Pueblo for a football game, and decided to give this place a shot. Glad we we did! We all had the chicken fried steak, and it was the best I have ever had! You can definitely tell they hand dip the steak themselves. It was meaty and full of flavor. Dad and brother had theirs smothered in green chili, mine was served with the brown gravy. Next time will definitely try the Mexican food. Waitstaff was friendly, and attended to all our needs. Loved the atmosphere of the dining room also. A must stop when in Las Vegas!

Oh my! Pulled into this little gem. Was greeted right away from a very nice lady. She told us it was going to be a little longer than usual wait due to staff shortages. We gladly waited. Sure am glad that we did! I am a taco lover....never heard of Burnt cheese tacos... my taco life will never be the same. They are AMAZING! All of our food was great and the friendliness of the staff and other customers was amazing. If we ever find ourselves back in Las Vegas, NM we will gladly return!

Since 1949..........are you kidding? There must be only a dozen restaurants across America, in small towns, that are even 25 years-old, let alone 72 years!

Hahaha....I rolled into Las Vegas late one night and searched up and down the strip for a motel room. Couldn't find a single one in July.2021. Of course I did have special needs: my 10 1/2 year-old companion, Raji, a 120 lb. Rottweiler. I needed a dog-friendly motel.

Luckily, when I was about to hit the road and just continue driving to Raton where I usually stay at my favorite motel, the Robinhood Motel, I stopped by the Budget Inn and met Jay, the reservationist. Cool as Paul Newman in his famous role, Jay smiled, welcomed me and Raji, and I had a room. Better than that, I asked is ther anywhere in Las Vegas that I can still get a quick meal other than the usual chain fast-food places. Jay explained that the bar next door was associated with The Hillcrest and was still open for another 35 minutes. I walked over to nirvana and had a beer and wonderful chicken sandwich at the bar. So nice...........

The Hiilcrest is a unique place. Next visit, I'll eat in their dining room, a special place that looks like Audy Hepburn or Spencer Tracy might walk in at any moment. At least I will and shall eat happily waiting for the ghostly guests to show.
