Mamrelund Lutheran Church

We ran across this small Swedish community on one of our day trips. Stanton, I owa, just off hwy 34. My husband is 100% Swedish so was brought up with many Scandinaviay 6yn traditions. This community is one of yhe most that I have seen . It resembles a small Swedish village in a travel brochure. Most of the homes are large and in perfect, immaculate condition. The Lawns are spotless with many that have the traditional colorful tailess horse somewhere on the property. There is a lovely walking \bike trail with bridges that encompasses the entire community. The school mascot is of course the Vikings. Every house in Stanton with the exception of 4 or 5 are painted bright WHITE. There are two beautiful churches, the Evangeline Church and the massive, brick and stone Lutheran Church. It is a creation of amazing architecture. We hope to go back to see the inside. There is also a large Swedish Heritage Center with bronze statues of Swedish immigrants outside. It also was not open when we were there ,so another good reason for a trip back. One doesn't have to be of Scandinavian descent to thoroughly enjoy this charming, unique town. The water tower is a large Swedish coffee cup, just like the decorative ones in my own home. I strongly recommend this short trip for those interested in various cultures. After all our ancestors all came here as immigrants. We should try to remember that fact. The Day Trippers !!!
