Stone Harbor Surf & Paddle

It’s hard getting up on a surf board. And it can be frustrating when you don’t. I have been working on my core and leg muscles for several months specifically in preparation to get up on a surf board because, as you may know, I’m a full grown man—not a little kid. Give a kid a board and they’ll get up. Probably right away. But not us adults. We need lessons! (And work on our core and hip flexors.) When I found Chris and his groovy gang of 7 mile surfers, it was like finding treasure on the beach! Being around Chris, you can tell he has surfing in his bones. He exudes patience and kindness. What he wants to give you? Not just the joy of standing up on a surf board as you ride the sparkly blue-green ocean in the July sun, but the joy of learning something new! Everyone in our class were first timers and we all got up and even rode the same wave together. So now I call myself a surfer! I surf buddy. And you can too. I can't say enough good things about Stone Harbor Surf and Paddle. Chris the owner is a very positive and friendly guy willing to go way out of his way to help. He's got an excellent selection of boards at good prices and gave me great advice on what board would work best for me. He's super knowledgeable about surfing and local conditions and is generous in sharing what he knows . The shop is a gem and Chris is a great resource.

I highly recommend surf lessons with Chris! He shared great tips, can coach any experience level and was incredibly patient. The shop also has high quality products.

This is a great place to buy boards at Stone Harbor. Chris is very knowledgeable and stands by his products. Would recommend that anyone go to this place for anything with surf or paddle. Had an awesome experience.

Great selection of both surf and paddle boards plus wetsuits. My sister introduced me to the place when she had her kids attend the surf camp last summer.
They moved to the 96th Mall so I couldn’t find them at first, but the new place looks great.

Rudest owner I have ever encountered. Cancelled the rest of the surfing lessons. Avalon surf camp is by far the best. Don’t waste your time. There’s a reason no one is signed up for these lessons.

this was the worst surfing experience of my life. My instructor would not properly instruct me and when i would ask him questions about what i was doing wrong he would straight out ignore me. throughout my experience I did not get up and ride a wave once in my hour lesson. He did not help me whatsoever and would put me on the worst waves that would die out, leaving me to have to just purposely fall off my board. The whole time it was entirely unorganized and we would crash into other surfers because they would put 4 people on the same wave. I will never go back as I had no clue what i was doing, i suggest finding a different surfing company.
