Arusha Gemstone Market

This market has about 10 stalls where they sell a variety of locally sourced minerals. You can find raw and cut tanzanite, ruby, black tourmaline, red and green garnet, quartz crystals.
Some nice specimens but completely unrealistic prices. Foreigners are assumed to have extraordinary wealth, so for tourmaline that would cost $5-10usd in Oceania or US retail after import from Africa - the locals start negotiating at the $100 usd point which is just a waste of time and will never reach a reasonable price.

There aren't a lot of gems and if you're a tourist, you'll may be the only one there.
Stones aren't great, I was surprised by the number of fakes. They have a lot of tinted glass for some reason 🤔.
Many people tried to sell me fake tanzanite as well.
Some sellers were kind and some followed me around with random stones.
Arusha doesn't have a lot of stones so if you like them, it's worth to have a look.
