Seven Monastery

I have added photos to make it easier for the next person to find it. It is relatively easy to find but also easy to miss. The roads leading up to where you park a very narrow. Once you park, you will see a red/white trail marker, you’re on the right track! On the trail you will notice more red/white trail markers, a sign for yediler monastery at 2km, 1.1km and 235m. You will also notice a blue hose line that parallels the trail all the way to the monastery.

Beautiful hike with a beautiful overlook of the city and ruins below. We had the place to ourselves for approx 1hr. It’s a fairly easy hike if you’re in decent shape and have good shoes. It was approx 35 degrees when we began hiking - that was the most challenging part. We highly recommend it!

You can drive to within 2km of the monastery. There will be a sign showing the direction and distance of 2km. From there it is a 1 hour hike. The path is well defined and easy to follow since it is marked with red and white paint. Bring proper shoes and lots of water. The trail can be challenging. The monastery itself is very interesting, and there was not a soul there when we visited. Recommended!

Seven monasteries or Yediler monastery is an absolutely fascinating place; especially a trail to it. It is not quite clear why it is called Seven Monasteries or Seven Brother Monasteries. At least we did not find any mentioning of it. Certainly we found ruins of just one monastery. It is not also clear when it was built and what happened there during a long period of its functioning at Bafa lake hills. In some way it is of advantage since you may conduct your own historic investigation during visiting. I think that a way to the Monasteries is certainly worth to go miles from any surrounding seashore resorts. Please do not be in harry when you are doing this trail.
The starting point of trail is near the farm in Golyaka village about 100 meters from a local Moschee von Gölyaka. It is denoted by a sign ‘Yediler monastery 2 km’. The trail is well indicated by white and red marks and have several signs showing a distance to the monastery. We did the way up for 65 min, were at the monastery for 35 min and spent 45 min to go down to our car. During Summer you need to have at least one liter of water per a person. It is better to start at early morning or 3-4 hours before sunset. The trail is passable by any adult healthy human being having tracking shoos.
We stayed in Hotel Silva Oliva Lake Bafa in about 20 min to drive from a starting point. It is an old fashioned and interesting hotel having a good and not expensive restaurant. You may enjoy perfect views of Bafa lake from a balcony of your room, practice yoga on the lake shore or observe fish, snakes and birds while lying in a hammock near the water.

Spending ten minutes on this site, especially near dawn, is worth adding ten months of peacefulness to our lifetime. Be ready to hike about 3 km to reach there and return (so 6 km in total). The hiking path starts from a village in the vicinity of Lake Bafa. I suggest you get plenty of water with you.

Great ruins to explore + view on the lake and mountains. Trail is a bit steep. If you dont find the red and white marks, follow the blue waterpipe (from Golyaka)

Yediler Monastery; The Monastery of the Seven Monks is dated back to the Byzantine period and used to have four churches on its lands high up Mount Latmos. Nowadays, most of its buildings have disappeared, but still, the ruin is a fascinating place to visit. Not in the least because the walk up (and also back down) is a beautiful hike. Nature there is stunning and – almost for the entire walk – you are treated with pretty spectacular views of Lake Bafa.
The trail is a climb of about 3km, starting in Gölyaka village.

The cells of the Monastery are still intact. There are very small, but all with the same spectacular view. Near the Monastery, there is a rock formation with frescoes hidden underneath the overhang. The trail to and from the Monastery is divine, and the surroundings are breathtaking (a bit like the climb itself ). Do look for the frescoes and go hunting for the pre-historical wall paintings hidden in many of the caves of Mount Latmos. It is a bit like an archaeological scavenger hunt as there are about 170 paintings found to date. They date back to the 6th BC.

Zorlu bir tırmanış yolu var. İyi bir yürüyüş ayakkabısına bol suya ihtiyacınız var. Doğa ile iç içe olmayı sevenlerin bayılacaği bir manzarası ve yürüyüş yolu var. Tek gidecekseniz öncesinde bölge hakkında bilgi edinerek gitmek daha fazla keyif almanızı sağlar. Yol boyu kırmızı beyaz çizgiler var. Takip etmekte fayda var. Aksi halde kaybolma ihtimaliniz var. İnternet çok iyi çekmiyor.

Zeytin ağaçları içerisinden, gnays kayaların ve bafa gölünün manzarası ile tırmandığınız patika yollarda tabela ve işaretleri ( kırmızı beyaz boya) takip ederek varacağınız manastırda, mutlaka şemsiye şeklindeki kayayı bulmalısınız 😉

Gölyaka köyünde arabayı park ettikten sonra yaklasik 2,5 km yürümek gerekiyor. Çıkış biraz yorucu. Ama yol muhteşem manzaralar vadediyor. Bir tarafta antik latmos diğer tarafta Bafa gölü. Gün batımına doğru manzara daha da harika olacaktır. Trekking için uygun ayakkabı ve bol su alın yanınıza.

Gölyaka köyünden yaklaşık 1 saat yürüyüş mesafesi bulunan ve Karia rotasında yer alan Yediler Manastırı Bafa Gölünü en iyi gören yerlerden biri. Henüz kaybolmamış ikonaların olduğu ve araç giriş olmadığından nispeten temiz kalmış, görülmesi gereken bir antik nokta

Manastıra, Gölyaka köyünden Manastır tabelasından araç ile gidilen son noktaya kadar gittikten sonra çok az mola vererek 1 saatlik yürüyüş ile vardık. İşaretler bazen silik olsa da dikkatli olunca bulmak zor değil. Manzaranın ve ortamın huzurunun tadını çıkarıp dönüşe geçtik. Manastırdan yukarıya Karia yolu devam ediyor. Değişik kaya yapılarını görmek için bir müddet daha tırmanmakta fayda var. Dönüşte muhteşem bir gün batımı izledik. Yol, karanlıkta yürüyüş için çok uygun değil. Bilek burkulması ya da düşme ihtimali olur. Gün batımını mümkün olduğunca aşağıda izlemekte fayda var.

Yediler Manastırı'na, Gölyaka köyünün belirli bir noktasına kadar araç ile gidildikten sonra yaklaşık 2 km boyunca muhteşem doğa görüntüleri ile bir nevi trekking yürüşü yapılarak ulaşılıyor. Yürüyüş yolu boyunca çok fazla özel arazilerden geçildiği için, mal sahipleri tarafından derme çatma çit tarzı kapılardan geçiliyor. Özellikle bahar aylarında envai çeşit çiçekler ve çiftçilerin hayvanlarının içinde olduğu, Bafa gölü, dağlar vs doğa manzaraları eşliğinde yürüyüş yapmak çok güzel. Manastır kalıntıları kaderine terk edilmiş maalesef. Manastır kalıntılarının sağ tarafında bulunan yaklaşık 1250 yıllık fresklerin bulunduğu şemsiye şeklindeki kayadaki tahribat çok üzücü. Bölgede bulunan kayaların etkileyici şekilleri çok güzel.

Manzarasi cok guzel ama yolu cok zahmetli

Gölyaka köyünden yaklaşık bir buçuk saatlik bir tırmanışla çıktık. Hem kırmızı beyaz çizgileri takip ettik hem de google maps navigasyonu kullandık.

Es ist einfach zufinden wenn man bis gölyaka fährt und dort parkt. 2.5 km wander weg durch traumhaftes wald gebiet. Um den weg besser zufinden, folgt einfach den blauen kabel auf den bäumen. Den dürft ihr nicht aus den augen verlieren. Der fängt irgendwann an und führt euch bis zum ziel. Sonst seit ihr mehrere std. Unterwegs.
