The lesser known site of Euromos has an amazingly intact temple as well as a partially excavated amphitheatre. This is one site that you can see the work of the archeologists and restoration team live in action. Example carved marble stones are also on display to give you an idea of what it looked like new. Don't miss out!

Beautiful ancient site with a new visitor centre and toilets..The theatre is worth visiting, you would clearly understand how the excavations carried out as some of the row of seats(cavea
) are under the soil..

Although only little of the city has been unearthed; it worths a trip solely to see the Zeus temple and Roman baths.

We saw this temple from the road and made the stop. Worth it. These ruins are winding through olive orchards making for a nice walk through. The Temple of Zeus steals the show but it's worth walking through and see the progress being made in restorations, especially the theater.

A very well-preserved temple of Zeus, only a few miles out of Milas. I recommend a stop if you're on your way to Ephesus from Bodrum.

It is located between Milas and Bafa Lake. It is known to be one of the best preserved temples in Asia Minor which is the Temple of Euromos.
It was built in the 2nd century A.D. It was consisted of 17 columns originally and today 16 of them are standing. The temple was believed to be completed ever.

A few meters away from the Temple to the north, the city of Euromos is located. The remains of a round tower from 300 B.C. and a theatre can be seen.
Several underground tomb chambers and a large building which could be the bath are among the ruins of the city.

Euromos was a wealthy city whose inhabitants were living in some disharmony.

The Temple of Zeus Lepsinos at Euromus was built on the site of an earlier Carian temple in the 2nd century AD during the reign of the emperor Hadrian.

Ruins of an historic city are being excavated and rebuild. As at August 2022 there was not yet much that had been fully excavated or rebuild, but it was also interesting to see how work was progressing. It is very easy to reach the site as it is next to the motorway.

Very impressive ancient archeological site with a pretty well preserved temple. It's right off the Milas-Söke main road.

Presently the temple of Zeus is being reconstructed - a slow procedure using as much original material as possible and the surface of new material is textured to match the original. Lots of parking. With a museum card entrance is free or 15 TL.

ANCIENT CITY OF EUROMOS
Euromos Ancient City, which is located within the borders of Selimiye District of Muğla Province, Milas District, and spreads on the skirts of Kızılbayır Mountain in the east, is approximately 12 km from Milas. is at a distance.
The city, which was named "Eurome" by the Roman writer, the old Plinius, was also called by the names Kyromos, Hyromos and Europos, which were also used in the Hellenistic Period. Euromos BC. He was a member of the Attica-Delos naval union in the 5th century. After the conquest of Alexander the Great, Euromos changed hands between the kings of Macedonia, Egypt and Syria. Between 201-196, it came under the control of Macedonian King Philip the 5th and the name of the city was Philippoi. With the 188 Apameia Agreement, Euromos, like the rest of Caria, was transferred to the Rhodesians. Euromos, which was an independent city that developed during the Roman Imperial Age, continued its existence within the Mylasa diocese during the Byzantine Period.
The temple engravings made by European traveler researchers visiting the Caria Region since the 18th century, as well as the information they gave about the ruins they observed in Euromos, are valuable documents. The first excavation and restoration works in the city were carried out by Ümit Serdaroğlu between 1969-75. After an interruption of nearly 40 years, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Faculty Member Asst. Assoc. Dr. It was restarted by a team headed by Abuzer Kızıl with the decision of the Council of Ministers and the studies are still continuing.
The current data obtained from the excavations show that the city was inhabited uninterruptedly from the Late Geometric Period to the Byzantine Period. The Zeus Lepsynos Temple, North and South Necropolises, Agora, Theatre, Bath, City Walls and Chapel are the main ruins that can be seen in the city. Zeus Lepsynos Temple is one of the best preserved temples in Anatolia.

turkey's best kept secret. a glorious ruin of the once flourishing Euromos. climb the hill nearby to take in the context of the ruin and the landscape. oh, no, i see from recent posts the place is now popularised!! regardless, you should still visit - hire a car and you'll be able to avoid the tours i reckon. the latest pictures suggest you can no longer walk inside the temple - thats a way to destroy the entire experience.

Wonderful Zeus temple from the 2nd century A.D. Costs money. Still under restoration, but it doesn't bother

Walk inside the city, walk near the columns, climb up the hill and close your eyes. Listen to the sound of people that lived ages ago whether in joy or pain. It is all gone but the city itself.
