This was always near the top of my ‘Want to go’ list when in Istanbul and it did not disappoint. A wonderful monument to the engineering prowess of the Roman Empire.

You’ll see lots of marble columns and their left over capitals lying around in local parks and even kids’ playgrounds.

If you are interested in ancient history and especially the engineering side of it then add it to your list.

It’s all free and access is all around the base. No interior access.

Lower arches have some cool looking tea shops I’d recommend to stop and take in the grandeur.

Short walk from the T1 Tram station (less than 15 minutes)

A VERY local market just through the central walking arch. Please be respectful when you’re taking pictures here.

If you want to discover the heritage of Byzantine hey sweets history and culture. This is the best place for you. Similar is built in room which again proves that the great Roman empire existed here before the Ottoman.

I drove past this aqueduct many times and finally found time to walk next to it. The atmosphere of bygone times and the monumentality of grandeur is strongly felt here

A lovely surprise arising from the landscape. It's surreal to see modern traffic traveling through this 2K+ year-old beautifully preserved structure surrounded by a park, cozy neighborhood and non-touristy bazaar.

I just suggested that the aqueduct of valens is most great water bridge.Even you have visited SeVille‘s and France‘s Pont du Gard ,you could find it an amazing ancient infrastructure and ancient city’s best water bridge. It was built by stones and bricks.Roman has genius civil engineers and engineers tools.

Amazing to see this structure still standing and in restored condition.
I can imagine it as a part of ROMAN ingenuity.

A must to see!!! Its an absolute wonder to walk through history and see what human can do. The Aqueduct of Valens was a Roman aqueduct system built in the late 4th century AD, to supply Constantinople – the capital of the eastern Roman empire. The remains are still impressive. Highly recommended!!!

Still under restoration but very impressive.
To imagine this was built. Need to see at night it's on a very busy, loud street. Worth walking over from the Grand Bazaar. No tickets are required.

Built in 4th century, the remains are still impressive. They are slowly restoring some parts which were rebuilt during different periods in history. It was serving the Topkapi Palace with a daily discharge of 6'000 m3!

I love an old aquaduct and search them out all over the place. This beautiful specimen is a 4th century model build thanks to Valens and is found in the old part of Istanbul. It's easily Access and worth seeing in my opinion.

The aqueduct of Valens. In fact, the construction of that aqueduct started during the rule of Emperor Constantius II (317-361 A.D.) of Rome, but it had been accomplished in 373 A.D. during the rule of Emperor Valens (328-378 A.D.). Today, it still stands, and you are going to find it at Ataturk Boulevard. Istanbul, 🇹🇷 Turkey 🇹🇷. May 2, 2023.

Amazing how they were able to build something like this so many centuries ago. The fact that it now spans a busy road makes it even cooler.

They are currently doing some restoration works. It's really peaceful and tranquil here, you can relax in the parks flanking the aqueduct on both sides.
