Does anyone know what happened to the owner? I see a lot of bad comments about this place and the owner. This place has kept me sane when I was living in Antalya. I used to go there and read in the treehouse at the backyard, I would do my assignments, and I would help Kemal in the shop sometimes. Kemal was one of the most amazing people I have ever known. He was very kind, and he would share anything with you, books, wine, food. He wouldn't accept everyone to the shop, because he believed that he could understand the intentions of the people with the books when he looked at them (if they were going to read the book, or not) I am very sad that he passed away. I hope he is in a better place now.

I'm so sad to hear of Kemal's passing. He was a really amazing man, intelligent, kind and great company over a glass of Rakı. He had no time for the Instagram wasters who came to his shop just for a photo opportunity, and would tell them exactly what he thought of them. I will miss him, rest in peace my friend

Lovely place, I have been there a few years ago. The owner, Chemal, was asleep on a bench when I entered, the smell of old yellow books, the opera music from an old radio, and some tools of unfinished DIY construction work lying around all just made the scene so enchanting and romantic. I came back later as if it was the first time I enter and had a lovely conversation with Chemal. He knows ALL the books in the shop, told me about my country things that I had never known. I stayed in Antalya for 5 days and went to the shop everyday. I got two books and two of the daisies he always has in a vase by the entrance. It will be my first destination if I ever went back to Antalya.

It's a love it or hate it kinda place! The owner is a bit odd and can be more than a bit prickly, but he's super knowledgeable and an awesome guy. Piles of dusty disorganized books make for a unique shopping experience.

I read the reviews and visited the shop with a little trepidation. The owner was there and our interaction was a good one. He helped me with finding English books and gave me a tour of his garden behind the shop. It was quite lovely!

UPDATE : PERMANENTLY CLOSED, RIP KEMAL
A second hand English Bookshop, (as well as a good stock of books in other languages) in the old town of Kaleci, full of fairytale charm, chaos & character, with lots of dust from wonky untouched shelves The owner is an eccentric Turkish man who likes to think himself as Greek , he shoos people out, shows his bad temper if they come in just to take photos of the place with no intention of buying , on the other hand he can be very hospitable, if you buy or swap a book and take an interest in English literature so much so that if you engage in conversation for his passion he will prepare and serve you a meal in his amazing rich luscious green garden.

We were searching for the shop and we were told that the owner passed away 5 months ago. And the shop was closed.

The owner is totally rude to strangers passing by and he shouts bad words thinking that they won't understand. As messy as the bookstore is, the only idiot is actually himself, not the tourists walking past the store, taking pictures of the building or talking foreign languages. He should be ashamed of holding that many books and still not knowing how to act like a human, let alone being one.

The worst!!!!!! Dont even walk by the store. The owner refused to let us in to his 'store'(or garbage dump) to look at the books. As we left the store, he stuck his tongue out at us. We just waved smiled and said 'iyi gunler!'

The owner of the store is really rude and assailant!!! I entered the store and said ''hello'' warmly then i asked for a book. The owner started yelling to me and saying ''GO AND WRITE SOMETHING BY YOURESELF, STUPID, THIS IS NOT A BOOKSHOP, IT'LL BE CLOSED SOON.....and things like that(also containing some personal assaults verbally). I think he has some psychological issues, HE NEEDS TO GET SOME HELP ABOUT HIS MENTAL HEALTH AND STOP ATTACKING TO STRANGERS,
*****IF YOU DON'T WANT TO ATTACKED BY MENTAL DISEASED TURKISH MAN DON'T GO OVER THERE!!!!!*******
