We participated in a one-night camel trek to the desert with Nasir and his uncle Ali and had a marvelous experience! After finding Nasir and his company Sahara Desert Tunisia ღ on social media we contacted him via WhatsApp and he told us all the details: what to bring (basically nothing - he provides food, water, tents, sleeping bags etc), where to meet him (in Douz city center; he offered us a safe place to park our car) and the price (170DT per person per night - really a bargain for the experience you get and the price that many other agencies in Douz demand for a one-night trek). We did a ca. 1.5h-trek on the camel in the desert outside of Douz before setting up camp for the night. We slept in a tent and despite it being February, didn’t feel cold due to the good sleeping bag s and warm blankets. Dinner and breakfast were prepared on site and both tasted great. Nasir and his uncle were super friendly and attentive and cared very well for us and the camels during the trek. Nasir speaks very good English and we had a great conversation by the fireside. We highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique experience and a small glimpse into the life of the Bedouin people of the Tunisian Sahara.

If you want to experience travelling in the Sahara with genuine people who truly care for not only your welfare but also that of the camels, then this is the tour group for you. Communication with Nasir was easy and quick, and we arranged a meeting point in Douz before heading to his home to safely leave my car before heading out. You will be asked for your passport information but this is actually good - it allows Nasir to register the excursion with the police and he has the registration form on him during the trip.
Nasir, his uncle, and his good friend were very accommodating throughout our overnight trip, always ensuring that our group was taken care of. They know the camels and take very good care of them, which is important to me.
Finally, you cannot argue with the value of the trip for the price paid. This could easily be a more expensive excursion but it isn’t because that isn’t why he does it.
Highly recommend contacting Nasir if you want to experience the Sahara.

A great desert experience

Nassir was an amazing guide and took great care of us from the first to the last second of the trip. He and his uncle took as by camel to the desert, where we spent a beautiful night learning about the place, culture, and cooking together. The food was delicious! 😋 Nassir is reliable, honest, and very engaging - he has tons of stories and knowledge to share! I recommend this experience for everyone who is open minded, curious and adventurous.
Thank you again, Nassir & Ali! 🐪

The best choice for your trip to desert is to go with Nasim and Ali. I recommend spending a night there to enjoy riding a camel, some stargazing, cooking typical Tunisian dinner on fire and sleeping outside in decent weather making it '5-billion star hotel' experience!

"I always loved the desert. It sits on a sand dune. We see nothing. We hear nothing. And yet something shines in silence." This quote from the Little Prince, by Saint-Exupéry, applies wonderfully to the Sahara and in particular to the Grand Erg oriental stretching to the south of Tunisia, along the Algerian border. In this vastness of sand shaped by the winds, crushed by light, nature is sovereign. It has distilled majestic dunes, hills and plains as far as the eye can see, date palms and sand roses in profusion.

The Sahara tours start in the tourist regions, you can sign up in each and every tourist hotel for them.

Douz and Tozeur does not have any significant tourism, they are mostly stopover stations for Sahara tours - but if you happen to actually spend your holiday in Tozeur or Douz, you will most probably be better off by asking around locally for a tour. :-)
