Every high season thousands of tourists flock here to enjoy a leisurely drive along the main island highway to one of the many pristine beaches the the island offers. Away from the traffic, crowds and "hustle and bustle" of Khao Lak, the island is like an almost secret escape.

Approximately 8 km up island, on the main island highway, is a little known mini-mart where you can stop to have an ice cold beer or beverage for truly local prices. This is a family run, traditional Thai store that has petrol for your motorbike ( and even diesel should you require), assorted snacks, cool beverages and yummy fried banana made fresh most everyday around noon. If you need ice, this is the best place to buy it as they produce ice for the entire island...therefore it's cheap!

I added this store because of it's significance in the area. The store is a hub of activity ( although it seems like it is in the middle of nowhere), where locals come to sit, catch up on the latest gossip, buy a few groceries and maybe have a shot or two of Whiskey White.

I often frequent this place just to get away from the touristy places, enjoy some really ICE cold beer and watch the activity as people come, go and interact with each other.

The family is really nice, mama is always smiling and laughing and the daughter "Tim" speaks pretty good English and is always ready to talk with foreigners.

So if you are travelling up island on Koh Kho Khao be sure to stop in and enjoy a cool beverage, now that you know where it is.
