A very interesting experience, I recommend it! We were greeted by a lady who showed us a video and explained about the hospital and the elephants that live there. It is not a place to interact with elephants, but to respect their space in their habitat.

Wow. I can’t even put into words what an incredible place this is. We have always wanted to see elephants, however wouldn’t want to support the supposed sanctuary’s. Elephants don’t enjoy being crowded and touched, they are taught to behave around humans with cruel punishments. If you want to see Asian elephants without supporting cruel tourism please come here, it was totally free with a gift shop that helps fund the FAE charity!

We have had such a magical experience, without harming or supporting cruelty of these creature's. We arrived and an incredibly kind veterinary assistant, called Namwan took us around the whole site, talking us through the elephants names and their injuries. The staff are so gentle and truly care about these animals. We were able to watch from a distance and observe the animals, it was beautiful. We communicated through Google translate! The peaceful atmosphere and calm elephants are completely removed from performance tourism, even if they are injured, they are incredible to see at a respectful distance :)

Just visited the hospital and got a nice tour from one of the management team members. They main reason why the elephants end up here us due to landmines. As a result they innovated a lot with protheses. They treated over 6000 elephants over the course of their 30y existence. About 6 elephants were currently in the center from which 5 of them are permanent residents. They have space for up to 18 elephants during busy times. The elephants are lucky that this hospital exists. Keep up the great work!

Wonderful place doing important work.

My wife and I were the only visitors at the time but the team showed us around and allowed us to view the elephants from a safe distance.

It was great to see and support this organization. Recommend to any other animal lovers in Chiang Mai!

A beautiful and inspiring spot in between Chiang Mai and Lampang. If you truly love animals, and want to help elephants, this is the place for you. Unlike all other elephant sanctuaries where you pay a small fortune to play in the mud with the animals, here you get to witness an amazing team take care of these beautiful elephants. Yes, you don't get to see them up close or touch them, but the work this elephant hospital is doing is truly incredible!

You can't touch or feed the elephants, it's not kind of a zoo, but realy amazing place to learn about them and the way they are being cured. You can read about the overall history of their relationship with Thai people as well as to buy some animal related paint works or souvenires. Recommend 10/10.

We had no plan to visit this hospital but our guide thought we might enjoy an hour or so here on our travels. It was AMAZING AND QUITE EMOTIONAL, the work done here is just wonderful for the sick and injured elephants. If you can PLEASE visit this fabulous place and support their work, you will not regret it and will leave feeling great.

These guys are the real deal. No shows, no gimmicks, just a crew of people dedicated to the care of sick and injured elephants.

When you arrive, look for the reception / information building. Entry is free. When I visited, the receptionist guided myself and two other farangs around the facility, showing us three of the five permanent residents. Afterwards, there's the option (but no obligation) to buy souvenirs or make a donation. Water, tea and instant coffee are available by donation.

If you never see elephants sick come to see and help them because they are the same as human, they need help too. Even they are not allow to get close but they can feel that having someone to visit them. They are very well look after.

I highly recommend to see this place. No one rides elephants here (people probably confused it with some other place). They have 5 permanent patients which you can see. FAE is doing a really amazing job and since it is a hospital it is a very different place from other touristy places. Even though no interection with elephants (touching, feeding, swimming) the experience is very unique. :)

It is bery interesting to know what they are doing to save the elephants. They have their permanent residents and the ones coming for treatments.
The staff is very welcomkng although they speak just broken english. Walking around the camp is nice, no more than 45 minutes should be enough.
Good luck and enjoy.

Friends of the Asian Elephant in an excellent care center that was the highlight of my 10 day Thailand trip. Whether you are a tourist, animal lover, photographer, or conservationist there is something here for you! Don't visit a place where the elephants are beaten and forced to put on a show. Here you can meet the elephants up close and have a positive impact on their lives. They treat the animals and people well. I will never forget visiting the elephant who was given prosthetic legs after stepping on land mines in a militarized zone. "Motala" had a hard life but still had so much love to share and extended a trunk to greet me.

We were greeted by a lovely lady who walked us round the hospital. We were able to see the wonderful work being done to look after the elephants; some of whom have stood on landmines and lost limbs (seeing elephants with prosthetics was a first) and some being treated with drips to hydrate them was fascinating. There is no pressure to make a donation; buy a souvenir if nessaesary, but do leave something as you can see where your money goes. A well spent visit. Thank you for having us.

It is absolutely amazing what they are doing with a privately funded company (ngo). Even this is not a tourist place at all they welcome you with a heartbreaking video intro message. Afterwords one of the staff was showing us the different patients of that hospital and told us their stories. We absolutely loved coming here and we were happy to leave a donation as well.

Excellent place to visit to learn about Elephant conservation and also the Worlds first Elephant Hospital. They care for many of the injured 🐘 here that require rehabilitation and also custom create prosthetics here. Well worth a visit and do try to donate
