Although it was raining the detour was well worth it. Well maintained and quite interesting

Visited Wat Khao Angkarn today on 23/5/2022 and there's only a handful of local visitors.

There's a Sleeping Buddha probably still under construction, as construction works around the area is under-going.

I guess it’s not a very usual tourist spot. But this temple is actually very interesting. Even with a beautiful look out!

This tempel is a fascinating architectural marble. There are so many beautiful details of the reddish buildings, it's breathtaking, It is a bit off the beaten track as there are very few visitors. Not just the architecturr and scenery are beautiful. There also are some blue and green peacocks living and there is a huge reclining Buddha at the entrance. Further there are a few souvenir stalls and a hawker selling drinks and cooking some Thai dishes

Big, beautiful, interesting and getting better by the day. They're building a massive sala currently.

Quiet and peaceful place. I guess the temple is the combination of ancient Khmer and Buddhist. Located a bit remote from main road. But google navigation can take you right there.

Historical is the word for this temple, it is old and it's said Buddhas ashes are here on the grounds. Cool view from top of the mountain looking east I think. You can kind of feel the oldness of this place. It's well of the track so not busy, I think I saw 6 people the time I was there.

Tempel on top of a volcano.
Interesting place. Its a very steep road up to the top. Narrow road. Same on the way down you need to be careful.

Wat Khao Angkhan

Khao Phra Angkhan is an extinct volcano mentioned in the legend of “That Phanom” in 535 B.C, Buddha’s ashes were placed here. In 1977, Phra Achan Panyawutthitho came to build a temple on the hilltop and moved the Buddha’s ashes to store in the stupa on the top of ubosoth which built in a unique style combining Thai arts of various periods. Surrounding the “ubosoth” are ancient sema stones (boundary stones) from the Dvaravati period made of basalt. On these semas are bas-reliefs of person, stupa, lotus and wheel of Dharma dating back to the 8th – 9th century, or about 1,300 years ago. Thus proving that Buddhism has been settled here since the ancient time.
The wát also hosts a Chinese-style pagoda, a 29m reclining Buddha and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

Khao Phra Angkhan is a wide based hill formed by a volcano erupted in the Quaternary period (some 700,000 years ago). From the top its shape looks like a garuda spreading its wings with its head pointing to the south. The main vent is at the summit of Khao Kraduk (Khao Pa Cha).

Location: Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Buri Ram, Thailand
Note there is no public transport in the area you will need your own transport to visit the temple.
