The Moken Eco Village Pier

A typical fishing pier as you will find them all over Thailand.

I have traveled many places in Thailand and have spent the last 7 years in the Khaolak and Takuapa area. Just recently I was invited by some Thai friends to take a boat trip to see some of the area accessible from the KuraBuri Pier.

The area initially grabs your attention featuring jungle covered mountains on the mainland as well as the towering hills of the local islands just off the coast.

The pier area is a busy place with more fishing vessels docked (side by side and 6 deep) than Ban Nam Khem and TapLamru combined.

One of the first things I noticed was the absence of the “ mass tourist volumes” you see in places like Phuket, Khao Lak and area. It has a feeling of an almost ‘secret place’ away from the crowds and tourists, really giving you the feel of true Thailand.

The scenery is amazing ( and we haven’t left the pier yet).... :)

We were shuttled to our waiting boat, which was shocking as I expected the standard long tail boat scenario, to find a large, albeit older, cruise boat with top deck, BBQ, Toilet and ice cold beer welcoming us upon arrival.
I felt like a king! I mean, comfortable seating, cool sea breeze blowing under the sun canopy... and cold beer- it doesn’t get any better than that.

We started the journey with supplies from my friends floating fish farm where he loaded us up with delectable goodies such as live crab, lobster, 1 fish and assorted shell fish.... I mean you can’t cruise without eating. We ate good!!!!!

We started the trip and proceeded to Koh Ra. Amazing beaches with nobody on them really made the experience special. Surrounded by Jungle and a myriad of other islands including the Kam island archipelago and other local islands I already forgot the name of.

Between Koh Ra and the mainland is many smaller islands, thick with mangrove forests and secluded little beaches perfect for making one feel that you are the only western person to set foot here. ( you are not of course, but it sure feels like that)

The area is simply amazing for those looking for a true escape away from the crowds.
Only about 70 Km from khaolak, you can get there in about 1.5 hours and it is well worth the trip for a wonderful day of adventure.

My friend advised me that this boat is being modified this year to accommodate tourists in the 2020 high season.
