I had seen some pretty fantastic photos from this mountain-top temple, but after climbing the 628 stairs (400+ meters) to the reach the temple, it really is breathtaking. A nearly 360-degree view of the river valley, bridges and towns below, along with other nearby mountains is really calming and quiet, adding to atmosphere of this temple. Covered in gold it shines in the bright sun, with the green Nagas lining the edges of the staircases. The main building also highlights the wooden temple constructions favored in the Lanna style temples. Much more than a single building - there is a fountain, and several other buildings perched on the mountain top ridge. I was surprised to find a bit of Japan on this mountain as well - a replica of the Daibutsu in Kamakura, Japan, is further up along the mountain ridge behind the Thai temple. The Abbot of the Thai temple had a dream about the Daibutsu that it should reside here - and it was added about 10 years ago. Its large green patina watches silently over the temple and mountain top. You can reach it up another staircase flanked by Torii gates with inspirational messages. There is a coffee shop with cold drinks and light food between the temple and Daibutsu as well as at the bottom near the parking area. Another side temple area has been recently built at the bottom near the information desk, and facilities for rest rooms and water are there. There were no tickets or entry fee required.

A delightful visit to a unique place where Thai and Japanese temple styles are beautifully mixed. Definitely worth a visit!

Another sunrise spot. On steroids. Check out the time lapse I uploaded of the clouds moving through the valley. Pretty groovy. Don't forget to head up past the parking lot to check out the giant Japanese style seated Buddha.

Beautiful temple in Lampang.
Located on a mountain. A transport service bring you up by pickup truck.
Huge japanese style Buddha. Stunning views. Do not miss the new temple at the entrance. Popular place for thai people. Recommended!

Temple has many aspects to explore. Up there, you also have a coffee shop, a souvenir shop, feeling like a Japanese atmosphere, and a replica of the Japanese Daibutsu (Big Buddha). On the other side of the area, you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view overlooking the mountains of Lampang, including a magnificent Buddha figure.

When going down, I was stunned by the beauty of the temple, featuring a large chedi and a crystal Buddha inside. 😇 This is a very nice place to visit, highly recommended when you go to Lampang.

In the peaceful Lampang province, Thailand, we found the stunning and serene temple Wat Pra That Doi Pra Chan.

This Buddhist temple, designed in Thai and Japanese architectural styles, located at the top of Doi Pra Chan mountain in Mae Tha, Lampang, offering visitors a breathtaking panoramic view from its elevated grounds.

One of the temple's highlights is a remarkable replica of the Great Buddha Daibutsu of Japan at the temple's highest point. In addition to the beautiful religious sculptures, pagodas, and buildings, there are many nice spots perfect for photography enthusiasts, making every corner memorable for pictures.

Accessing the temple can be done either via the Songthaew Shuttle Service or by the staircase, which is more difficult and challenging.

Our visit left us feeling blessed, having experienced a sense of peace and tranquility within the temple's sacred grounds.

Due to limit parking lot at the top. (10 cars max). Suggest to park the car at the foothill and use shuttle van/pick up to the top of the hill. This save your time. Shuttle fee is THB 20.00 upward and THB 20.00 downward per person.

Indulge yourself in japanese temple like experience. Also, for brave and fit only, instead of taking local taxi to the top of the hill to pay homage to giant Buddha statue, kicking yourself for 600-ish step.

Less touristy temple with a beautiful panoramic view overlooking mountains of Lampang. If you go by foot the hike might be little challenging with the heat, but totally worth it You also have an alternative way of taking temple taxi service provided by the locals with a bit of fee. Up there you also have a resting spot/coffee, and replica of Japanese Daibutsu Big Buddha, but Bigger!

A Thai temple with Thai Buddha and Japanese Buddha. Better visit in a morning to get a chance to experience a sea of fog.

Such a beautiful temple. I was stunned by the beauty of this place; maybe I am exaggerating, but this place is lovely. I highly recommend it to anyone that visits Thailand. It’s not so famous, and that’s why you would not find a lot of tourists. You have two options to go up to the hill; you can go in a shuttle that they have, or you can walk in those dragon steps, which, by the way, are gorgeous, and get there. There is no entry fee, only donations for the monks and people who work there.

An absolutely stunning temple and massive Buddha on top of the mountain. Enjoyed every minute being there. 20 Baht return trip fee to go up the mountain with a shuttle. From there everything is close by. Spectacular views from the temple.

The temple has many aspects to explore, including a great Buddha figure, a temple with five buddhas in it, and a bell with a wooden striker which can be swung to hit the bell. Visitors can work their way up steps to reach the great Buddha and then continue on to a viewpoint doorway where you can see for miles over countryside towards mountains. Finally visitors descend a dragon staircase down into the jungle below. This site does have many steps so it’s not suitable for the disabled or anyone with mobility problems. The reviewer also recommends the site for its beautiful views and Lanna style temple decorations.

a beautiful temple near Ban Mae Tha outside of Lampang. Well worth exploring, with a lovely cafe at the top. I recommend taking the stairs up from the base, but there is a paved road to the top (not dirt anymore as previous reviews mention) with a shuttle service.

Amazing temple about 30 mins out of Lampang. In the cool season get up at 6am and head there to see clouds and mist in the valley. Visit the new big Buddha statue too.

beatiful temple, with the japanese themed huge buddha and totoro...
the view from the main temple was so beautiful, you can drive up to the top, at the parking lot.. it is open around 5:45am, we were the first group and we had the place for ourselves for 30mins but I think it is best if you are there before sunrise or 5-5:15am... not popular for foreign tourist...
